Is it safe to use synthetic car oil?

i got a 98 honda accord, and been using regular mobil oil since i bought the car in 2002... now i hear that synthetic oil is better for the engine...

can i switch over ? will i damage the engine or what? it's a v6 engineIs it safe to use synthetic car oil?
except for maybe a new engine that needs to break in(synthetic oil is so good it can keep a new engine from wearing in properly), synthetic oil is always better than regular oil, and can be switched at any time with no engine damage. and despite what you might hear yes you can switch back to regular oil if you want(but why would you want to), the synthetic oil makers might want you to believe that, not true though. synthetic and regular oil can be mixed, as you can buy preblended oil from castrol and mobil and others. Is it safe to use synthetic car oil?
The benefits of synthetic oil are longer drain intervals and better protection in extreme conditions (heat, cold, towing, hauling, etc).

On an 11 yr old car, I'm not sure you will enjoy as many of the benefits. If your current oil change process is working for you this long, I would not consider changing. Just keep doing what you are doing.

Yes, you can ';upgrade'; to full synthetics. But it won't really extend the life of your engine or make a noticeable difference in how it runs. If you want to go longer between oil changes, that would be beneficial to you, but that's about it.

And you can safely switch back to conventional oil any time you want. The whole ';if you go synth, you can't switch back'; is an old wive's tale that is no longer true. That old saying dates back to the 1970's when synthetic motor oil was just coming on the market. It's 2009, and that idea needs to die.
That should be fine.

It's not as good for a brand new car. A new engine needs time to wear/break in, like a new pair of shoes....and the synthetic oil is almost too slippery, and it can't do what it needs to do to break in.

But a car that old is fine, and it's worn in to where it should be, so in that case, the more lubricated the better.
It's safe. I switched over myself 2 years ago. You can get alot more mileage from synthetic oil between changes. It may cost a bit more but instead of going 3K between oil changes you can go 8K.
it is better for your engine.. but once you go synthetic.. you can not ever switch back to regular oil... you will have to use sythentic from now on... and it's a bit more expensive
Synthetic oil is safe and superior. It also costs a lot more but lasts longer.I use it.
yes better oil if correct viscosity for ur engine
