My car shut down while driving, plenty of gas,oil and coolant.wouldn't respond to a jump what's the deal?

This happened to me a while ago. I was driving down the road and it just turned off. Nothing seemed wrong, but it wouldn't start back up. The timing belt had broken. In an older car, it would pretty destroy everything around it, but my engine automatically shut off to prevent further damage once the belt broke. This happened on a 95 Ford Escort. My car shut down while driving, plenty of gas,oil and coolant.wouldn't respond to a jump what's the deal?
More information please - make, model, year, does the engine crank but not fire when jumped or not crank at all?My car shut down while driving, plenty of gas,oil and coolant.wouldn't respond to a jump what's the deal?
If the batteries dead, could be the alternator. If it trys to crank but wont, could be fuel filter. There are other possibilities. good luck
plenty of gas in the tank but is it reaching the engine. you might try changing the fuel filter to start out with.
the alternator for sure is my guess...

should cost around 220 after parts and labor
