Diesel oil for a petrol car?

Is it okay to use diesel motor oil in a petrol car?

CheersDiesel oil for a petrol car?
The third answerer has is bang on correct.

It'll be fine if you're just topping it up a bit, but don't give it a fresh fill with diesel oil.Diesel oil for a petrol car?
not to berecomended as diesel engine oil contains a detergent to clean carbon deposits that build up in diesel engines where as petrol engine run better with the small carbon deposit they produce if you use deisel engine oil in them it cleans all the carbon in the engine and they tend to start to rattle.
i would not recommend it, if its not a gas/deisel oil, and in a small engine. and if you are not famialiar with engines.
I would use it only in an emergency and then change the oil ASAP.

Not being designed for a gasoline engine, it may not protect it as well. Or, it could even foam.

But, in a have to case in which you're out and the only other alt. is running without oil, I'd say use it only as the last case option..
not unless you want to wreck the fuel system and wreck the engine....it wont run on deisel!!!
