In an older car that burns oil, is Synthetic Oil best?

Synthetic Oil is best in all cars. There are some oils that are formulated for high milage cars and are designed to reduce oil consumption as well.In an older car that burns oil, is Synthetic Oil best?
this isn't resolved.

if synthetic is better, does it burn less? does it burn 3 times less? why do people say don't waste money on a high burning car? Report Abuse

If it's some kind of classic that you can't give up, yes, but it's too expensive. I use 20/50 in my '70 Mustang
Try Lucas Oil Stabilizer. This stuff will help with the oil burning somewhat. It your car's burning oil bad enough, synthetic oil won't help much for the higher price you'll pay. Get a leak down test done on your engine by a mechanic. You might have worn valve guides or the entire engine may need to be rebuilt.
If your car is burning oil, short of rebuilding the motor, you should use an oil additive that will condition the piston rings to stop or slow down the oil consumption, like Engine Restorer. As far as synthetic oil goes, it wouldn't make a difference for the oil burning.
If you have an old engine with a lot of miles on it, it has carbon build up and deposits throughout the engine. These deposits actually wear certain parts, like the valves to the point where they actually seal as long as these deposits remain. Now the right way, which most non-mechanical types don't know, is that when you switch to Synthetic, you first have to flush the system with a special flush, then incorporate your synthetic oil into the system. This will knock out all the old deposits leaving gaps, and probably making things a little worse. Now if your engine is a fresh engine, few miles or relatively clean, it would be a great idea to switch. But once you make the switch, I would stay committed.
it doesn't matter what oil you put in as the car will still burn it.
if its burning it why waste your money...... get the cheapest oil possible
First of all how much does it burn? Synthetic is expensive!

As for lubricating, you wil probably be ok.

Here's a car dealers trick! Did you know that synthetic oil doesn't burn??_ Therefore a car that burns oil (bad oil seals on valves, - bad rings) will not smoke! The oil will drip out of exhaust pipe as you drive. So test drive on ';oil-burner'; will show no indication when you decelerate.. Also some states have ';smoke'; as reason to ban car from road - Synthetic makes car stop ';smoking';, - therefore legatl to drive! This of course makes a car look much better than it actually is - mechanically!
If your vehicle is burning oil I would just go with a heavier weight oil and don,t waste money on an expensive synthetic.
No synthetic oil will over no advantages over mineral oil if your vechicle is burning oil.
no it is better to use sythetic use old fashion oil if you us synthetic the motor will burn oil faster it is a light weight and thiner the old school oil i would use like a old school 10W-40 all year
