My car was ';tapping'; so I changed the oil. That stopped that noise. Then it started running really rough....

Then we changed the wires and plugs. it is still running rough. Someone told me to have the fuel injectors checked/cleaned, but that cost a little more than I have to work with right now. Is there anything else I could check before spending the money for a certified mechanic? What is a PVC valve and would that have anything to do with the way my car is running now?My car was ';tapping'; so I changed the oil. That stopped that noise. a PCV valve is the positive crankcase ventilation valve. Basically it vents some air into the crankcase while stopping oil from leaving the case. While it can make a difference and is recommended to be replaced, more than likely no it is not the cause of the problem. But for the 5 dollars it will cost, it never hurts to replace it. Just becareful with the hose depending on the age of the vehicle it may snap and you will then have to cut it short or replace it as well.My car was ';tapping'; so I changed the oil. A pcv valve is a positive crankcase ventilation valve and has absolutely nothing to do with your problem.Your problem has nothing to do with oil. It sounds like you have a ';floating'; head valve. This means a set of valvesprings is probably trash.A mechanic will tell you the entire head is ruined to get this head from you.Be careful. Its just the springs and seals that needs work. Its a Head problem. Not a timing issue. But the tune up never hurts!!Dont fool with the injectors, That was poor advice.Take the head off and take it to your local machine shop, they can fix this.Buy a new head gasket and find a decent mechanic to refit worked head. Also if you dont know which head it is Take them both off, your only out two Gaskets...
when was the last oil change before this one?and how well have you kept up with maintenance with the car.the reason i ask is so i can tell witch way to go .but lets try this.OK you might be talking about the pcv valve (positive crankcase ventilation)valve.the pcv valve restricts the air flow when the intake manifold vacuum is high.its usually located on your valve cover its an elbow with a hose attached to and the other end goes into the valve cover.it is recommend it to replace the valve after 60.000 miles or 60 months.also check the hose that goes on the pcv it might be cracked causing a vacuum leak.

and yea this valve well make your car run rough.try replacing it . it cost about 5 bucks.
The tapping sound is most likely the valves/lifters. Can't say for sure what it might be but you will need to have a mechanic look at it. Nothing ';you'; can do from the outside of the engine.
the tapping may have been the oil thining and your valves needing to be adjusted. valves that arent properly adjusted will cause a car to run rough

--good luck
it sounds like the valves just need to be adjusted. i just had it done it cost me 150 bucks including gaskets my car runs like new again. if the valves are tapping it can be fixed if the bearings are rapping you need to replace the bearings and alot more.
Huum............you changed your oil until your valves began to tap.....! Sounds like you really ignored your vehicle! Sounds like your car has had it.......you probably burned a few rings on your pistons cause YOU DIDN'T CHANGE YOUR OIL regularly. The roughness sounds like you're losing compression! Sorry.....but your car is about to croak!
YOU SHOULD GET THE VEHICLES COMPUTER SCANNED AND CHECK FOR ANY PROBLEMS AS WELL AS CODES AND THEN YOU WILL HAVE A GOOD IDEA ON WHAT THE PROBLEM TRULY IS.

TRY FINDING AN INDEPENDENT SHOP INSTEAD OF THE DEALER OR A CHAIN STORE BECAUSE YOU WILL BE OVERALL MORE PLEASED WITH THE FINDINGS AND THE SERVICE.

LEAVE IT THERE WITH THEM SO THAT THEY CAN FIND THE PROBLEM FOR YOU, IT WILL BE A LOT BETTER THAN JUST REPLACING PART AFTER PART AND NO DOING ANY GOOD.
