It could be a leak but I don't see one. It gets low almost 1,500 before it should.Why is my car burning to much oil?
Usually excessive oil use is due to worn valve guides or piston ring end gap out of specification. In an engine that's had a lot of miles with infrequent oil changes wear the surfaces of the cylinder walls also. Occasionally oil rings get plugged up with carbon if there's a lot of blow-by and oil slugging.
Today's modern engines require precision honing as per the piston ring manufacturer. Ring end gaps must be prepared using specialized equipment.
If you completely dissemble the engine, check all dimensions with precision measuring instruments. You need to know what the factory dimensions should be before attempting to pull this type of job off.Why is my car burning to much oil?
There could be a few things to consider like bad piston rings, bad head gasket or warped head. Does your car smoke? if it does...is it black? if so then you are burning your oil and most of the time is a bad head gasket. Depending on what kind of car you have and how many miles it has. Some cars have that problem happen more often then others.
What do you drive? Some engines (Such as the Cadillac Northstar) are more prone to burning oil than others. If it really bothers you, take it to wherever you get it serviced and ask them about it.
Otherwise, there ain't that much I can tell you without knowing what it is you drive.
';It gets low almost 1,500 before it should.';
Truth is, it really shouldn't get low between changes.
Exactly how much oil is it losing? How many miles are on it? What's the make, year, model and engine?
no leak and cant see it in the exhaust. A quart of oil every 1500 mi is not cause for alarm. My friends 1 yr old BMW does this and my truck. Would not worry too much just keep an eye on it.
When was the last time you did an oil change?
Go have an oil change and make sure that your filter is not gunking up with bad oil.
bad valve seals or bad piston rings or both.
How much is it burning??? a quart per 3000 miles is normal...
use a thicker oil like 20/50.
