first thing i'd say is check the oil.
does the car have compression?
make sure it has oil before turning it over.
what kinda car is this? EFI?
is there any bind on the engine?
if the car has under 100PSI on each cylinder its gonna have a hard time starting. if it does have compression then check your spark. it should be a bright blue spark, yellow its gonna have a hard time starting as well. if its a newer engine mabe they could have a oil sensor, and if theres not enough oil it cuts the spark. but not sure.
if all of your spark plugs spark yellow, then check the distributor for flaws. or carbon buildup. check points if its a points distributor.
also check your main coil wire and coil. if one of the spark plugs are yellow then it should still spark. check that plug, or the plug wire. or the plugs distributor peg inside the cap.
