What oil to use in my car?

I am driving a Nissan Maxima 2000, engine...VQ30DE, 185k miles. I went to E-Z Lube for an oil change, they put in 5w-30. Autozone says they should use 10w-30 or 10w-40. Is 5w-30 ok? Any advice would be great.

Thanks

safe with any really older car gets and it starts to used oil between oil changes most people go up with weight of oil to slow it down 5w30 to 20w50 any wil work i myself run nothibng but 10w40 in all my cars new or old but only you know your cars oil useage so if its burns a little oil go with a heavier weight 5w30 ok for now not a problem but next time tel them what type of oil you want just dont let them guess cause they will put what type it should have might not be what brand or type you want you tell them what brand or weight you want easyWhat oil to use in my car?
Who would you believe? The manufacturer whos spent millions of dollars designing the car and puts that info in the owners manual.

Or a high school dropout making $6 hour who works at Auto Zone............md
mike. try www.castrol.com. should get all info you need.hope this helps.
your safe/dont use anything thats too high/40 for instance/you need lubrication and 5-30 does it fine
if you are using oil you might try the 10-30 (it's the alternate oil for your car anyway), but if not you should 'dance with the one who brung you' as in stay with the manufacturers recommendation.
Your owners manual to the car should tell you the recommended oil to use. I would trust the manual more then someone at the E-Z Lube
never put in 10w-40, that's an old oil grade that hasn't been spec'd for trucks since the mid-90's.

a long time back convention wisdom was 10w-30 in the winter, 10w-40 in the summer. that's a thing of the past. just run 5w-30 like the manufacturer spec'd.

I think its funny as hell that so many people disregard what a manufacturer says is proper for their vehicles. I mean come on, everyone has a degree in mechanical engineering ...right? everyone understands stress vs strain vs sheer....right?
