My oil light on me car comes on now and again but the oil level is fine, wots the prob? help!?

it could one of 3 things i can think of:

1. Oil pump on the way out

2. Faulty oil pressure sensor

3.Oil filter may be clogging.

Doing an oil change may helpMy oil light on me car comes on now and again but the oil level is fine, wots the prob? help!?
I would not ignore oil Press. light. One queston, does the oil light

come on in traffic or idle, goes out at higher r.p.m.Does oil caution light follow speed of eng.?Sensor is good start, but if the

above is tru,oil pump.My oil light on me car comes on now and again but the oil level is fine, wots the prob? help!?
make sure you check the oil level after the car has cooled down otherwise it will give a false reading!

if it's definatly got oil in it and it still flashes, smash it with a hammer it normally works for me
how old is the car if its a few years old and done a couple of miles.A tin of stp might sort the low oil pressure out.
2 possible problems, one is a lot more expensive to fix than the other.

Your oil pump might be on the way out. You will find that the warning light comes on for longer periods. It will need to be replaced or you will do permanent damage to the engine.

It might just be the sensor sending false alarms. Try replacing that first - it's a lot cheaper.
u have a little man in there with a torch and he cant find the way out
I would start by changing your oil if you haven't done it for awhile. It should be changed every 3,000 miles. The oil breaks down with time and looses its vascosity. Even more so in high R.P.M. engines. This is the cheapest place to start and it's probably time anyway. If your oil smells like gas, it's overdue. hope this helps. The Car Guy
Hello,

Make sure your oil is at a correct level. if its just hovering on the just above empty on the dip stick, then for example going around corners will bring the light on. it happened to me when the level was not critical at all but just hovering above the lower limit.
I have just got rid of my 12 year old car and had a problem with the abs light coming on now and again... i had it checked by a mechanic and had the computer engine checked for faults and they could not find anything wrong and was told this can happen with old cars... so if your car is old like mine was it could be nothing to worry about... apart from that i know nothing about how to fix them.... i just about know where the water, oil and petrol go lol
A faulty oil pressure sensor cost about 拢10 very easy to change
Pardon me if I sound patronizing, but are you sure you are checking it correctly? In some vehicles the transmission fluid stick and the engine oil dip stick are easily confused. Also, you need to wipe the stick first, redip it (with then engine NOT running), and then make sure it is at the right mark (either between two lines or in a cross hatched area). I have had some friends who've made simple mistakes like this.

If you are measuring correctly, then the suggestions regarding the oil pump and the pressure sensor are the best.
u have one of two problems or both u either have a bad oil pressure switch or u have low oil pressure take it to a mechanic and have the pressure of the vehicle tested and compared to factory specs to make sure it is with in range if not u need a new oil pump, do not wait if u have a bad oil pump or something blocking the oil pick up sump it will cause engine failure as parts will not receive the oil they need
could be an oil pressure sensor, or it could be your oil pump going out as well. The light shows when the pressure is too low. . .if the oil is not pumping correctly, then it will show that the oil is low, because your car thinks that there is less than what there really is. The sensor, well, it is just that, if it is out, then it doesnt know whether there is oil or not.
Take it to a mechanic and get them to find out what the problem is just to be on the safe side. Good luck
