Recently my car 'broke' down in front of an intersection. Both the oil light and the car battery light came on when my car stopped running. It happened to me a week ago but after a few minutes it turned back on again. I managed to drive it home both times with no problems after the initial break down.
Anyone have any suggestions on what happened and how I can resolve this issue? This is my only car [It is a 1998 Nissan Sentra].Car Battery and Oil lights issues?
The oil light came on since there is no oil pressure when the engine is off. Address the charging problem, more than likely just an alternator.Car Battery and Oil lights issues?
If your car stops running the oil light would probably be the first light to come on. As far as the car quitting I would check the alternator belt to see if there is any glazing on it. If it is glazed the faster you rev the motor the more the belt will slip and when it slips you are virtually running off the battery alone. Have the belt and alternator checked.
A faulty alternator in a Sentra can cause different warning lights to come on randomly. Have you car check out, It will get worse and you may not make it home next time.
This happened to my daughter's Sentra, so I used her car for a couple of days, I
couldn't pin point the problem right away cause it was so strange and comes and goes. Finally, the battery got drained while it was parked at work, I then test the charging system and turn out it was over charging when running, and drain the battery when not.
My Sentra is 2001, even though the indications are little different, I bet it has something to do with the charging system. Good luck to you, let us know what you found please.
