Is Car engine's oil leak a big problem?

I bought a used car a few weeks ago, and its leaking oil. Is it a big problem or i can live with it?

Its a 2003 jeep grand cherokeeIs Car engine's oil leak a big problem?
A car no matter what year, make or model it is, leaking oil is a problem. this means that the oil is getting to the spark plugs which will slow the car down and cause starting problems as well a problems accelerating after stops. The gasket is broken or the oil retaining ring needs to be replaces. Which ever of the two or both, this takes time because you have to remove the motor, separate it from the transmission. This leak is not to take lightly. The repair has to be done ASAP because if not the engine will crack and can split the motor open. It is better to have it taken care of. Now, check with which garage to do this and the prices. Some can charge more than others. It has been a while so the price I can't say. I know that just replacing the retaining ring or the gasket, that is not too much, but if the engine has a crack then replacing the motor would be better. If the motor has to be replaced you can see if the dealer gave you a 3 month guarantee. The dealer who sells new or used cars has to give guarantees to the owners and they have to make the repairs. If the dealer can't do anything and make it hard for you, then you can go to a lawyer for them selling a defaulty car. You see. when buying a used car, they are supposed to give you a guarantee that covers the transmission and engine. If the guarantee does not cover these nor the suspention, then that dealer can get in trouble.

1. Check the guarantee and see what it covers. If it says that the engine and transmission are covered then take it to them. If not, then you will have to see if they have their own garage to do the repairs and for a lesser price than would any other mechanic.

2. If the leak is a simple thing to solve, then any other garage can repair it, but be sure first if the dealer can do it and if the car has a coverage.

3. Don't let this leak pass another day, it seems like nothing to some, but it is serious and can lead to worse problems later.

I know because I had this problem before with a car I had .Is Car engine's oil leak a big problem?
no you need to fix it.. I ride motorcycles and oil drips by cars make the roads slick and very dangerous when it 1st rains on the roads. Besides it will save you money and your drive way won't look messy where park, not to mention less fumes when you're parked at the light with the windows down and hot smelly oily fumes breathing up into the vehicle...
You can always live with an oil leak, if you don't mind the mess on the driveway, or the smell if the oil leaks on something hot. As long as you check the oil every day, and keep it full, there won't be any lasting problems.
that just depends how big the leak is. if it,s just a valve pan leaking some then you could live with that for awhile.but if it,s something like the rear main seal leaking then it will get worse.
The leak needs to be located and fixed.
