What do they do with the oil after its drained from your car? Are we making the best use of this oil ?

Some shops use it for heating fuel in the winter. Recyclers send it off for use in making tar and other products. Most, if not all, licensed shops are required to recycle oil and must take a certain amount in from people who change their own oil.What do they do with the oil after its drained from your car? Most waste oil is used in one of two ways: 1) energy reclamation via incineration, or; 2) asphalt production. If the used oil is sent to an incinerator it is simply burnt up to create heat which is typically used to turn a turbine to generate electricity. This is the same way a coal fired or natural gas fired electric utility plant works. In asphalt production, the oil is typically mixed with diesel fuel and then mixed with the aggregate products (gravel and/or stone) to create the products you see laid down as roadways. There are not many other ways to reuse used oil because alternate methods consume more energy then they provide. Essentially, you waste more energy processing it then you put into it.
