Before you open it, shake it vigorously to cause the components to recombine in case they have separated. PopsCan unopened quarts of oil go bad? I have a quart in my car that is old, but unopened can i use that in my car
No. Motor oil does not go bad.
It's been sitting under the earth for thousands of years, I think it will be ok after a few years in a can.
I recently cleaned out my deceased grandad's garage and have been using oil that's 40 years old.
It flows and looks like new.

...give it a taste.
as far as i know it wont ever go bad,but id shake it up real good before i opened it but i have used it before that was a year or two old,and it never hurts it any at all,i think that's the one thing that will last forever,or at least it seems like forever, good luck hope this helps.
absolutely. Nothing that bottle can do to is as bad as what the engine does to it.
most commercial oils are not just pure oil but have a wax element. I would shake it well and be sure it is room temp or better
How old is old? Any oil manufactured in the last four or five years is probably OK to use as long as it meets the specifications and requirements as set by the manufacturer of your vehicle. Check the label for weight, additives, and other criteria that may impact its use. If it's even older than the four or five years I mentioned, I wouldn't use it (but I may try to sell it as a ';collectible'; - there are a lot of people who collect old cans of oil from now defunct companies as well as still extant companies).
I don't think so, unless it's been 10 years or more. In that case I'd just pitch...er...recycle it.
