Can i use heating oil for my diesel car got some left over after changing to solid fuel for my house heating?

There is very little difference between heating oil and diesel fuel but diesel has additives in it to increase the Cetaine level which stabilizes the combustion process.

So the answer to your question is a conditional yes.

You will want to add it in at a very limited rate - like one gallon of heating fuel each time you fill the tank until you use it up to avoid complications, if your typical fill up is 10 gallons or less then reduce that amount to around a half gallon per fill up - you want to keep the ratio of heating fuel to conventional diesel fuel at around 5% or less to avoid problems with low Cetaine levels or add a Cetaine boosting product like Power Clean Diesel additive - which when used in adequate quantities to make up for the lack of additives in the heating fuel will just about add up to the cost of an equal amount of diesel at pump price. Can i use heating oil for my diesel car got some left over after changing to solid fuel for my house heating?
Well first things first - it is illegal as it has not had road spirit duty paid to the greedy tax man.

Having said that, a neighbour of mine changed from oil fired CH to gas and had over 400 litres of oil left in his tank. He used it up in his Citroen Picasso diesel at a ratio of 1/3 fuel oil to 2/3 diesel fuel with no apparent damage or change of performance.

Diesel fuel for road cars has various additives in it that are not present in home heating oil. I only ever had oil heating once myself but one thing i do remember is that we used to get condensation inside the tank and you might find that your oil is sitting on top of an inch of water and you would not be wanting to put water into the fuel tank of your car so if you do go ahead don't empty the tank too close to the bottom. Can i use heating oil for my diesel car got some left over after changing to solid fuel for my house heating?
If it's diesel based heating oil and not kerosene you have it should be ok to use, but as others have said, it won't be refined to the same standard as auto diesel. It is also illegal to use such diesel in a road going vehicle, as it's taxed at a lower rate than auto diesel. It is easy for customs to detect such illegal use of diesel, as it is dyed red.
I would not dare to try it. Although I believe that heating oil and diesel fuel are kind of close in relation, they are not the same. For example, Farm equipment and your car run off of different types of diesel fuel. If I remember correctly farm grade fuel has a higher sulfur content. So what I am trying to say is, the chemical make up has a lot to do with it, so don't try it.
People on this link have a few thing to say, about heating oil, but think it through first before you try it...scroll down the comments.

You can..... if you dont plan on driving the car ever again
Same stuff only dyed red and no highway use tax.

Many truckers get caught using it because of lower tax rate
