What would happen if my car ran for .2 (2/10) mile without oil in engine? Engine on for about 3 to 5 minutes.?

Boyfriend changed oil in my car. Forgot to put oil back in engine. I drove car for 2/10 of a mile when oil light came on. I pulled off road and turned motor off. Engine was on for about 3 to 5 minutes. Boyfriend came %26amp; put 4 qts. oil in car. Motor sounds fine. Do you think there may be some damage that may show up in the future? What would happen if my car ran for .2 (2/10) mile without oil in engine? Engine on for about 3 to 5 minutes.?
I'm no mechanic, but anythings possible. My ex changed my oil once, and didn't get the plug back in tight enough, and I ran it out of oil. Needless to say, the heads got warped, and the repair bill was ridiculous! What would happen if my car ran for .2 (2/10) mile without oil in engine? Engine on for about 3 to 5 minutes.?
i build race engines and to answer your question oil is used by the engine to create a film between your main and rod bearings for the connecting rod and rod journal of the crankshaft same with the mains without that film its bearing on metal after the clearance is comprimised and can lead to premature wear of bearing surfaces and possibly spin a bearing. also hydraulic lifters will pump down without oil. cam surfaces and lobes can be worn down your lucky it was such a short distance. pay attention at next oil change when draining the oil look for metal or brass shavings in the used oil if there is a noticable amount have a mechanic cut the oil filter open and inspect it for metalic wear
that is bad, can you imagine if he were working on an airplane and forgot the oil. what would happen? he kill that engine in no time. and you know how much that thing is going to cost compare to a smoker choker. well to your question, probably will have some wear and tear depend on how much of the residue oil that was left in there. how big was the car's oil sump. if your engine were bone dry. your engine wouldnt make that 5 minute on a heavy load. depend on how hard you gun your little engine, what rpm for 5 minutes. to my educated guess was, if you were able to ran it for 5 then put the oil in the engine after, ran fine. you probably luck out of destroying your engine but doesnt mean it has no tear inside. it will wear out premature without engine oil. the only thing that keeps the components living inside every engine is the oil.
Probably wouldn't hurt it as long as it was only 3 to 5 minutes but just remember to tell him to put oil back in it next time. Thats why I change my own oil and don't let no guy.
NOTHING MAJOR WOULD HAPPEN BUT YOU WOULD HEAR A TINY TINKING NOISE BUT NOTHING MAJOR WOULD GO WRONG BUT NOT RECOMMENDED TO GO LONG DISTANCE WITHOUT OIL OR ENGINE REPLACEMENT WOULD BE NEEDED.( VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE ENGINE)
If you are lucky nothing, It did not have time to get warm enought. But I will recomend that you chek the pistons, rings, valves and head gasget!

P.S. Not a mecanic, but my father is a petrol and diesel mecanic, grew up around cars!
Anytime there is metal on metal without some protection (ie oil) to help reduce friction there will be some wear to engine components. Everytime you start your vehicle there is a part of a second that there is little protection. That's why short trips and frequent start stops are hard on a vehicles engine. Without a doubt there was some damage done. The extent however from what you've described is probably not worth worring about. It's great you shut off the engine right away anytime an oil pressure or temp light comes on it's important to shut down engine immediatly.
