To unapeze 3000, you really should cut open a fram and compare it to a wix..... I'm not gonna pay 5 to 6 bucks for a filter that takes a buck fifty to make.... Report Abuse
Oil changes for my car, how often? Tired of Jiffy Lube/etc trying to sell me everything I don't want?
I disagree, with the recycled oil comment, the pennzoil that i use at my center is the same oil you can get at auto zone, not recycled, we do not use no name brands, only penz, quakerstate, valvoline, mobil 1, rotella, and delo. None of which are recycled.
we also use purolator filters. Report Abuse
Recommend every 3,000 miles. And as far as what Jiffy lube is trying to sell you, by the mileage on your car you may need some of the items performed. Check your owners manual for what services should be done at what mileage. If there trying to sell you new fluids such as coolant, transmission, power steering, ask to see the fluids, if they look dirty or smell burnt then they should be replaced. Check your owners manual.
my husband says every 3000 miles, but check you manual.
3000 miles... And about jiffy lube i wouldn't get my oil changes there its a known fact that they use recylced oil... I don't kno about you but i wouldn't want recylced oil... Just go to another oil place and see if they say you need these things other then that don't go to JIFFY LUBE and they are the most expensive oil people i kno...
The cheaper the oil (generics like valuecraft) the more often to change it. I would recommend 2500 miles on the cheap stuff, but 3000 miles on pennzoil / valvoline / castrol. If you can tell your engine runs better after an oil change, you waited too long. If it runs worse, you REALLY waited too long.
On the other hand, if you pull a trailer or haul heavy loads, change it more often too.
I work at a lube joint, (nameless) and have heard all the stories about all the lube places. No service center is perfect. If you don't trust them, go somewhere else. If you did not ask for something, refuse to pay for it. If you do not want it, tell them no. If they get an attitude, dont go back.
Also, when your oil change is being done, listen for air tools being used. Many 10 minute lube places use air impacts or wrenches to tighten your drain plug. This will strip your plug and cause leaks. I have seen it a thousand times! Don't go to these places. Many shops like mine use a torque wrench and the manufacturers specific ratings for your engine to properly tighten your drain plug.
As for the previous comment about Fram filters, I disagree. Fram filters are excellent products for the price. I do recommend that you avoid the generic filters.
