Should i shift to better car oil? Been using cheap oil...?

my car has about 130,xxx miles. Ever since i bought the car, i've been using the cheap oil at firestone. Should i just stick with this since its too late or should i switch to better oil?Should i shift to better car oil? Been using cheap oil...?
I would recomend putting a good oil such as catorol high miliage in it for better protection ,it`s got enough miles now to need the better protection ,,it will pay off in the long run,,,Should i shift to better car oil? Been using cheap oil...?
The cost of the oil does not make any difference. MOBIL1 for example costs more and is synthetic. At the same time it can last much longer and doesn't need to be changed every 3000 miles. It can go as much as 9000 and you are fine.

With conventional oils it is required to change them every 3000 miles. If they are changed as they are supposed to be changed they work just fine and cost less.

As long as the oil is still good before its changed it will protect your engine.

If you where to change to a synthetic oil now you would likely develop leaks. Synthetic is designed for newer cars and is smaller than regular oil.

Stick to what you are using, change the oil as recommended and don't worry.
I think it would be a good idea to switch to one on the newer high mileage oils that are available now if your goal is to keep this vehicle around for another 100k. The better oils have additives that extend the life of seals that are inside your engine and promote a longer running time. I wouldn't shift to a synthetic thought at this point.
if you suspect no mechanical problem id stay with what you are using. you should always stick with your vehicle manufacturer recommendation. use the proper viscosity, or thickness. most cars/trucks will use 10w30, 10w40, some will use 5w20-30. change oil regularly and use a quality filter. synthetic oil is an option too. the best thing for reliable engine longevity and consistant performance is regular maint. including oil changes. sensible driving habits help too. i would also considering you mileage you posted consider a engine tune up. plugs/wires/cap-rotor/. i recommend purchasing a haynes manual for your vehicle's make/model. it will explain how to perform most repair and maint procedures. it is written in easy to understand format and will save you $$.
Actually, if all Firestone's are the same, there cheapest oil is still synthetic blend which is suppose to be better then regular oil. I can't argue against that notion because I got an engine oil test done and showed hardly any engine wear. I been getting oil changes at Firestone for about 70,000 miles.

If you want to know more about what is going on with your engine try getting an oil test done. The place I used seemed very good http://www.blackstone-labs.com/
Its not too late to put expensive better quality oil. Did you know by putting better oil your cars pickup, acceleration and power increses and that engine has 'less wear and tear'. My advice is put high quality oil. You will have less problems of maintaining your car in the future.
if you're changing it every 3000 miles like you're suppose to, the cheap oil is fine.
