oil only leaks when engine warmOil leak from under car but only leaks when engine warm?
Or maybe it leaks from the pressure while running. It could be from the head gasket, or just simply from the oil filter or plug. Tighten them up.Oil leak from under car but only leaks when engine warm?
This is because as the crankshaft rotates, it ';splashes'; the oil in the oil pan, creating waves in the pan, which in turn waves up against the surrounding rim of the pan, you need to replace the oil pan gasket.
when the engine is warm, the oil is thinner, jack the car up and try to locate the source of leak, things like oil pressure sensor etc
It's most likely some where the oil can only get while it's circulating.
You need 2 replace the oil pan gasket %26amp; check that the oil filter isn't loose!!!
Front or rear seal possibly leaking.

I have a 1990 chvy lumina car.i changed the oil.now my oil lite comes on when it warms up and off wen speed up
Sounds like oil pressure may be off. Did you change the oil filter at the same time. If not, do another oil change and change the filter as well. Also, make sure you are using the grade of motor oil recommended by the manufacturer and that you are using the correct quantity.I have a 1990 chvy lumina car.i changed the oil.now my oil lite comes on when it warms up and off wen speed up
Sounds like you may be losing your oil pump.I have a 1990 chvy lumina car.i changed the oil.now my oil lite comes on when it warms up and off wen speed up
Was the oil you used the proper viscosity? did you change the filter too? if you did it may be low on oil now that the filter is full, some of them hold almost a liter.
Your oil level is probably low. Check it and add if you need to.
the lite warns of pressure it may be a bad sensor.

Do you change your own oil on your car?
Yes.Do you change your own oil on your car?
Are you crazy?!! I would be taking someone's job away from them! :)Do you change your own oil on your car?
i do,its easy if you got all the right tools, filter, and oil for your ride.
I have
Nope I would not have a clue where to start
No. I take it down to get it done.
no, my father changes my oil, (im 18)
used to ... the value of my time is not worth me doing it (and the mess) when ';in and out'; and ';jiffy lube'; will do it cheap enough....
Stop changing your own oil...you'll feel better about yourself...you monkey!
I have
Uh huh, takes about ten minutes and saved 25.00.
i used to. but there is a gas station by my house that just charges me for the oil and filter...no labor. comes out to about 20 bucks.
nope
yep
Dont have a car. Sorry. But my mom got my older brother to change it since she doesnt like to and he takes auto tech.
My dad usually does, but he's gone and I need it done. I've watched before, so I think I'm going to try it. Wish me luck.
well i dont have car but if i did i would
Nope... got tired of doing it ...
It's a lot easier to change it from UNDER the car, as opposed to on it.
yup I sure do its easy
I use to but now its just as economical to have it done at wal-mart.
Are you kidding...not when there is an oil change that does it for $15.95!
Not while my dealership changes it for free - perhaps when the service expires I will.
My hubby does
I have but I usually just take my car to a lube depot to get my oil changed =)

Car sat for a year, now its out of oil and engine seems locked up what is wrong?
I had oil in it, tried to sell it and they took to their mechanic, they come back with a repair bill for 4985.36, is this possible? I want to sell the car for 2500.00 but I am wondering if I am responsible for the balance of what their mechanic said if I sold it?Car sat for a year, now its out of oil and engine seems locked up what is wrong?
These people may be trying to run a scam on you. Did they buy it and then it suddenly had no oil or what? We need more details. If it was sold they are responsible for repairs as used cars are sold as-is. Car sat for a year, now its out of oil and engine seems locked up what is wrong?
Speaking as a 20 year bus mechanic, if there was engine oil in the vehicle it had to go somewhere. Possibly, there may have a major oil leak somewhere. It should've been detected where the vehicle was stored. Unfortunately friend, any vehicle left for that length of time. Pending not being ran on a frequent basis should never be attmpted to start without changing the engine oil %26amp; filter. Regardless of the oil level prior. The condition of the oil prior may not be known. Take this knowledge, engine oil breaks down even after even non usage. In closing, the engine damage isn't the buyer's responsibility.
Was car mothballed properly for the storage?
Where was car left for the year (seaside/industrial vicinity)?
When did you start to left it for a year (season)?
In extreme imaginable case, the bill could be fair price to pay
However, if buy accept the terms and conditions of sale, go ahead
The oil can leak out if it's got a big leak.
ha....the piston rings are probably just stuck and a little rusted. it happens. pull the plugs out and squirt some oil in the cylinders. then try to turn it over by hand. see if you can un-sieze it.
So how much oil was in it?
Running out of oil is serious. All sorts of engine damage can occur.
What's the bill estimate for?
Did it have oil in it when they took it to their mechanic? Did it run OK, before they took it?
If the car is the same as it was before they took it to their mechanic, then just find another buyer......
if it was ok, when they took it, but not now, i would want to know what they did while they had it......
Are you saying that this car you're talking about sat idle for a year with no oil in the engine and you tried to sell it to someone who took it to a garage (towed it?) for an evaluation as to its trustworthiness; the WOOD-BE BUYER gave the garage permission to perform repair work; and the garage charged $4985.35 which the would-be-buyer wants YOU to pay that bill. And this same car that you wanted to sell to *anyone* would pay you $2500 for -- as is, now is some kind of crazy ';source of debt'; for you??
MAN! I believe that you will need a lawyer to try to get you out of this mess
did you check the oil before you cranked it up? if not and it had no oil in it then you locked it up. and yeah thats probably going to be pricey.
Ask to see the bill detail. NOBODY HERE CAN TELL WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOUR CAR WITHOUT ACTUALLY LOOKING AT IT.
Before you sell it,get it diagnosed by the mechanic of your choicedebt consolidation loan

Cold air intake on a car that blows oil?
i have a car that blows oil but it runs amazing, i keep up the matinance and its been running forever but i wanna get a cold air intake for my car for better fuel economy and alittle more horse power. is my compression to bad for a cold air intake ?Cold air intake on a car that blows oil?
Your car ';blows oil'; because the piston rings are toast. The CAI certainly isn't going to hurt the problem, but why not save that money and put it toward getting your motor fixed. You might be surprised how much more power you have when your piston rings actually seal correctly.Cold air intake on a car that blows oil?
No the compression is not too bad but a cold air intake will not help your car. A top end - new valves and rings - will liven the beast up.
More horses may kick a hole thru the engine block so be careful, do the engine rebuild first.

Car Help: I returned home from a 1 week holiday yesterday to find that my car will not start, the oil light ?
comes on although having checked the oil, it's fine, also the battery is fine. It seems somehow that the fuel is being blocked to the engine, thats the only thing I can imagine is wrong. Can anyone geuninely help please, I do intend to take it the mechanics tomorrow but just wondered if anyone might know? It's a Seat Ibiza 1996 Model, thanks for geunine answersCar Help: I returned home from a 1 week holiday yesterday to find that my car will not start, the oil light ?
I would say it may be worth trying a jump start anyway - this will ensure everything is getting plenty of power.
If the engine turns over at a good speed, then see if there is a petrol smell at the exhaust. If there is, then it sounds like there is no spark at the plugs. If you are mechanically minded - you could take one out and check. Otherwise it may be time for the AA or local garage.
Also make sure immobiliser/alarm is functioning as it should - these can be affected by long periods of innactivity.Car Help: I returned home from a 1 week holiday yesterday to find that my car will not start, the oil light ?
Petrol or diesel? Diesels often need the fuel line priming after standing a while. There is a rubber bulb under the bonnet to squeeze until it goes hard. Then it will fire. If it's petrol and the engine rotates it should have been ok for a week, easily. Fuel pump fault maybe.
i have heard that you can get an air lock in the petrol pipe, did you try pumping the accelerator a few times, not being funny but it has got petrol in it ie no one has nicked you fuel
sounds like the compression in your engine is low see if a push as it was running before you parked it, or your battery might not be able to fire it up
Did you check the fuel pump ? That can be the problem.

Where can I get a diesel car converted to run on vegetable oil?
Go to sites like this one and ask around. I've recently seen a news story on a guy that converts and sells diesel cars but since I'm not in the market for one I didn't write any of the info down.Where can I get a diesel car converted to run on vegetable oil?
check www.dieselveg.com its a in wolverhampton based conversion company or if you diy there are loads of german companys around like www.elsbett.com
i made a website about that too its www.geocities.com/vegbiofuel

Where can I get a diesel car converted to run on vegetable oil?
you don't
Good luck finding one; there are very few of them around. Your best bet is to try searching for one online. Otherwise, convert it yourself or find someone who will convert it for you.
You gotta be kidding me. That stuff don't exist yet. BUt I do think someone's working on it.
no conversion required but its illegal if you get caught car will be taken by the customs and excise and no chance of getting it back
i can tell u for sure you dont need to convert, it will run on it any way but you still need som diesel in for starting, just keep puttin g an odd gallon of diesel in.
You dont need to convert it.
Just shove the clean oil in.
I don't know for sure. I have heard of a person who converted his pickup truck to run of cooking oil. I don't know how to contact him though. If I had a diesel vehicle I'd probably be trying to find out who he is and what he did. I think he said all he does is change the filters a few times until the systems gets used to the cooking oil. Don't hold me to that.
dont need to convert.. just strain the soilds out itll run just like that
You dont need to convert most of them, they will run just fine if you mix the oil and spirit yourself and pour it in.
You only need to worry about solidifying / filtering if you are using reclaimed oil.
go to the moon. mabey some aliens can do it for you
You DO NOT need to covert.
Just use fresh, clean oil - it works just fine.
You MAY need to change the inline fuel filter more though as it water gets into the fuel mix (as it does with regular diesel) it doesn't separate as easily so forms a sticky emulsion if you're doing lots of start-stop short journeys.
In colder weather the viscocity will increase - so do a 50/50 mix with regular diesel or buy a 'pre-heater' for the oil to keep it flowing freely.
I know a few guys that have ran 2.5TD BMW engines on it for years.
And remember to give Mr. G. Brown the tax you'll be due.....
It depends a lot on your car (Make, Model etc). Some need no modification whatsoever. A better bet in my mind is to look at Biodiesel. All diesel engines will run on biodiesel without modification. Warranty on vehicles will usually state that the manufacturer accepts no responsibilty for damage caused by sub standard fuels, so ensure that you only buy fuel that meets the EN standard. There is loads of info on this whole subject, try 'www.rodbowen.co.uk/daniel/vegoilvsbiodi鈥?'www.biodiesel.infopop.cc' or just search or it. You will feel liberated from the constraints of the big oil companies!!
O'Reily's can order it for you. Or any vehicle store.

Why did my dad check the oil and water in my moms car when she came over to him and his new wifes house?
She did not ask him to check it. I need 20 answers to this question please. Why did my dad check the oil and water in my moms car when she came over to him and his new wifes house?
Maybe because your dad wants to make sure the car is in good working order since your mom drives you around and wants you to be safe. Why did my dad check the oil and water in my moms car when she came over to him and his new wifes house?
He wants your mom to be safe.
Life don't always work out the way we want it to but it is very important to always remain sensitive, thoughtful and caring human beings.
I can also spoil my message a bit by saying that in the old days a host would take care of guest's horse. That's part of normal hospitality.
He has forgotten the other 826 times he has checked your mother's car, and your step-mother's car. Your step-dad has also forgotten the 987 times he has checked the same cars, and your little brother? Seems even you have forgotten him! Not nice!
Because your dad is thoughtful.
Because your dad thinks your mom is unable to do these simple things herself.
Maybe your dad is paying the car payment by court order and wants to make sure it's being properly cared for.
Mary in Camden, MI
maybe your mom doesnt know how to check it herself. Sometimes its a mans thing to do, he would still care for her and want her to have her vehicle looked after.
because he still cares about her. maybe he isn't still in love with her, but he respects her and wants her to be safe and drive around with a car with oil and water.
Because your dad know your mom never check on it and just help her to check. Is dangerous if our car short of water and oil.
Either a true motor head, still cares about her as a person, or just has a good heart.

How do you change the oil on a car?
Drive over to jiffy lube and cough up $16.How do you change the oil on a car?
First its probably easier to have someone else do it, for as much as oil and a filter will cost, jiffylube or greased monkey will only be a few bucks more. However if you like to get dirty, grab a drain pan and some jackstands or ramps. first you will need to locate the DRAIN PLUG. Remove that but make sure your not laying directly under it, it is a DRAIN PLUG after all and as soon as its loosened it will start draining. After you fill your drain pan and get it out of the way you need to take off the OIL FILTER. It looks like a soda can and its not easy to take off. There is a wrench made for that and i'd suggest you get one. After you remove the filter grab your new one, fill it up and use a little oil and rub it on the rubber gasket on the oil filter. Then replace the filter and the drain plug. DO NOT FORGET TO REINSERT THE DRAIN PLUG!!!!!!!!!!!! Then pour the oil into the top of the motor and your good to go. Just let it sit and run for a minute or two and relubricate everything and be easy on the car for a little. How do you change the oil on a car?
Buy a new oil filter and some oil.Rev up the car until the engine is hot.Unscrew the oil pan bolt from the oil pan ( which is under the engine ) and unscrew the oil filter. You will need to catch the old dirty oil in a tray !!
Refit a new clean oil filter re tighten the oil pan seal bolt refill with oil - run car and top up the oil level to the correct level.
You will need a wrench or socket that fits your oil pan plug. It is just a bolt that screws into the oil pan. You will need some thing to drain the oil into. You will need a new oil filter (purchased at any auto parts store). You will need an oil filter wrench that will fit your oil filter. Run the engine for about 15 min. Turn it off. Loosen the drain plug. Place container under oil drain hole. Remove plug (carefull not to burn yourself). Let drain fully. Use the oil filter wrench to remove the oil filter. Let it finnish draining. Fill new oil filter half way with new oil, and dab some oil on the seal of the filter. Screw the drain plug back in. Screw the new oil filter on. Remove the oil cap from the valve cover. Add remaining oil to the engine through the valve cover. Screw oil cap back onto the valve cover. Run engine about five minutes, turn off engine, let sit five minutes and pull the dip stick to check oil level. Pick up your tools. Pour old oil into the oil containers you just emptied into the engine. Dispose of old oil at any auto parts store that will take it. Done!
normally just below the radiator just a few inches ahead there's a nut which u need u open it up and there is mentioned oil drain nut and wait for the oil to get removed

What is the importance of having an oil change in your car?
It is important to get an oil change regularly is because it helps to reduce the amount of wear that is placed on your engine. The oil helps to lubricate engine parts and keep your vehicle running well. Over time however, the oil breaks down and looses it's viscosity. When this happens, the oil does not lubricate engine parts as well, and your engine becomes more at risk for wear and tear. By routinely changing your oil, you keep the oil that is circulation through your engine thick, which better helps to protect engine parts. This is very important because it will reduce the overall maintenance costs that you will have to pay over time for your vehicle. Without regular oil changes, your engine will break down and need repair which can end up costing a lot of money.
Routine oil changes also help to improve gas mileage and reduce the amount of emissions that your car puts out. When a car receives routine oil changes, it runs more smoothly which results in it burning less fuel. With the rising cost of gas these days, this makes it even more important to ensure that you routinely change your oil as recommended by your mechanic. Additionally, when your vehicle is running more smoothly and at optimum performance, it will emit less pollution which is better for environment.
What is the importance of having an oil change in your car?
The oil breaks down from heat and pressure and stops lubricating properly. Replacing it with fresh stuff keeps your car running properly. And in older cars it get full of metal shavings and stuff that needs to be removed. What is the importance of having an oil change in your car?

Why was my mom sitting in her car today while my dad checked the oil and water in her car for her?
I need 20 answers in all please. Why was my mom sitting in her car today while my dad checked the oil and water in her car for her?
Jeez, I don't know maybe she should have crawled under the car and changed her own oil, that would have been the womanly thing to do.Why was my mom sitting in her car today while my dad checked the oil and water in her car for her?
Maybe because she doesn't know how to help, but she wants to keep him company, and sitting in the shade is preferable to just standing there? hurr hurr hurr
Because that is the way their relationship works.

I think I put the wrong oil in my car, What should I do?
I drive a 2003 honda civic and I put 10w-30 and it takes 5w-20, should i get the oil changed? will this effect my motor in any way?I think I put the wrong oil in my car, What should I do?
It shouldn't hurt your car. It is just a little bit thicker than the 5W-20. Just change back next time.I think I put the wrong oil in my car, What should I do?
10-30 will be fine if you don't live in the coldest climate, especially in the winter. If you live in the southern states, don't even bother wasting your money on the oil change. If you live up north then you better change the oil. Start it up, get it up to running temperature then drain the oil. No need to change the filter if its brand new. That's just wasting money. A little of the other weight oil won't hurt anything especially if you stay with the same manufacturer.
10-w-30 wont hurt a thing on it its just a thicker oil and will stay with it better ,but you don't have to waste the oil you put in it next time just use what ever you want back in it,it wont hurt a thing on it,10-w-30 is a good oil and is approved for all cars especially high mileage ones,if you got over 50 thousand on it i wouldn't worry about it,good luck.
Check your owner's manual to see if Honda allows the thicker 10w30. If it doesn't, then remove it. Simple.
Not likely there is a problem for short term use. Long term is another matter, especially if you live in a colder climate.
Edit: My Dodge Magnum runs 5w20. Run 10w30 and the valve train doesn't work as designed and won't shut down 4 cyclinders on the hwy for better mileage. Who knows what Honda engineer's reasons were for 5w20?
you will notice worse fuel economy, and a lack of power in some situations, go back and change the oil again.
IDK . i would go to mechanic shop for anything happens to your car.
10w-30 is fine, its just a different weight. I don't think you will notice a difference.
you will be fine until the next oil change time and then just have them put in the 5w-20 if you so wish.
Don't worry about it.. You would just be throwing your $$ away...

Opinions on mobile 1 oil for a car with over 115000 miles on it?
I just bought a 97 acura integra a couple months ago and I wanna change the oil. It has valvoline in it, doesn't burn at all. I just never had a car with this type of mileage so don't know if I should start putting it in this late in its life or stick with the regular stuff or if it even matters. thanks in advanceOpinions on mobile 1 oil for a car with over 115000 miles on it?
Valvoline is not the oil everyone thinks it is. I never use it or recommend it, it always leaves deposits and sludge. The best thing to do is to run a good chemical de-sludger, like butyl cellosolve, through the engine prior to using the Mobil One. This should remove the garbage the Valvoline has left behind. Valvoline is manufactured by the wax reduction method, one of the cheapest ways to refine crude. The name Ashland should give you a clue. The Acura engine is a very highly developed engine that can be used to high engine speeds. The Mobil One is a great choice, because it will continue to clean as you drive, provide longer service intervals, and protect the delicate passageways in your valve lifters and timing belt tensioners. Also, your fuel mileage will increase as more internal friction is reduced. Good Luck!! Lately, though, I have been getting more impressed with ELF oil.Opinions on mobile 1 oil for a car with over 115000 miles on it?
You can change if you want and extend the oil change interval up to 6000 miles or so. It will do absolutely nothing for mileage or performance. Mark my words and confirm it after you've wasted the extra money.
The only real benefit of synthetic on an older vehicle is extended change invervals. Even then it usually costs more.
Stick with a good brand conventional like Havoline or Pennzoil. Valvoline has been under par for several years now.
As long as the car was maintained well, it should be fine. I run a fully synthetic 0-40w in my 2002 Subaru WRX with 110k on it.
Check for leaks first, if the car has a potential to leak, I recommend the regular stuff. Fully synthetic oil can cause leaks in a tired engine.
If you are looking to extend the intervals then yes but otherwise good old ';Parts Master'; or Napa oil is the best bang for the buck. Its made by Ashland oil who also makes Valvoline. Its about a dollar cheaper a qt. Spend the money on a good filter instead.
It will be fine in an older engine as long as your engine doesn't use any oil or have any leaking oil problems now as synthetic flows better than conventional oil.
yes change it also put in slick 50 when doing it
A synthetic blend might be the best choice. http://www.mobiloil.com

How long does a fully synthetic engine oil can be used in cars?
I'm using right now the Castrol Formula RS engine oil.How long does a fully synthetic engine oil can be used in cars?
It still depends on what kind of driving you do. If it is stop and go city driving, figure 6000-7500 miles. If it is all highway miles, you can go as long as 15,000 miles between oil changes. How long does a fully synthetic engine oil can be used in cars?
I've been running my synthetic oil for 5,000 miles according to the owners manual..It comes from the factor with synthetic oil.
Normally by using fully synthetic oil you can extend the time between oil changes from 3000 miles to 5000 miles.
Look, synthetic oil is just oil. Yes, its designed to not break down as soon as regular oil, or a synthetic blend, but the oil breaking down is not why you should change your oil. As the oil sits in and circulates through your engine, its gets dirty, and builds up sludge, especially if you do alot of short trips and stop and go traffic. My personal opinion: It does not matter if you are using Regular 10w 30 Pennzoil, or 5w 30 BG Full Synthetic, every 3 months or 3000 miles, change your oil.
Ya know how helium leaks outta a balloon alot faster than air? Syn. oil also has a smaller molecular structure. It is a heck of a better oil,,,,, BUT, if your engine is well past it's 'break in' stage, you may have seepage, of oil, past the seals. Good Luck
7500 miles is recomended by most carmakers

My car dealer says I should change my oil every 3000 miles? Is this true?
Check your owner's manual. Quite frankly, the engineers that designed the car know more than your local mechanic, the dealer's mechanic, or most of the folks here (I'm sure they know more than me!). They don't just make up those numbers. Besides, your local mechanic and your dealer's mechanic have a profit incentive to get you to change your oil as often as possible.
Also, most cars come with a maintenance guide that works as a little checklist. Look for it in your glove box.My car dealer says I should change my oil every 3000 miles? Is this true?
I have my oil changed at a Ford dealer and they put on the sticker that the next change is due in 6 months or 5,000 miles. My oil life left sensor says that I have 35% oil life left at 5,000 miles, I go with the dealers recommended 5,000 mile interval with the Ford dealer Works Maintenance package that includes premium synthetic blend 5W20 oil, new filter, tire rotation, Safety inspection, Battery test, Vacuum interior, top off all fluids and a car wash for $40.00.My F150 has 170,000 miles on it and still runs as good as new.My car dealer says I should change my oil every 3000 miles? Is this true?
Why?
sould go 7500 8000m
yes, but a lot of owners manuals actually say more like 5,000
The concensious of professional mechanics is 3000 miles.
yES it's best if you have the warranty too keep up on.
The High end vehicles I test drive for have been testing a maintenance schedule that can go at 15,000 mile intervals.
But they are only strecthing it that far because High end vehicles are sold with a Maintenance plan at no extra cost to the customer. The more dusty areas you live in would also recomend even sooner. Like every 2000 miles
Yep!
NNNNOOOOOO!!!!! is not true, u can change the oil every 5k and if u use synthetic oil u might be able to 7k with out and oil change.... there is an oil brand name AMSOIL is made to have oil changes every 30k all u have to do is change filter every 7 or 10k and ad maybe a quart every oil change to replace the oil in the filter. is an excellent oil.
BUT CHANGING OIL EVERY 3K IS A REAP OFF FRONT THE SHOPS AND OIL CO. BELIEVE me, i drive my vehicles @130k a year...imagine how much money i save by not listening to them.
You can pay 'em now..........or,you can pay 'em a lot mor later.
Depending on how and where you drive 3000 miles sounds good. If you live or drive on dusty roads you may want to change it more often. Also, change your oil and air filters at the same time.
use mobil 1 synthetic then go every 5000 the engine will last much longer
Yes, he wants your money really bad... I'd change it every 6 months and 5,000 miles.. DON'T use fram.... 10 bucks for a filter that should cost 5 or 6 bucks? Come on..... they're regular oil filters are cheap crap (cut open one... compare it to a wix) a wix filter can do 8,000 easy... marketing....fram is using its once good name to sell crappy filters
Btw, explain hondas 10,000 on conventional oil change interval, they're oil is relabled exxon superflo.
You must change your old every 3000 miles for your warranty. Keep a record. If you do not, they may not cover any mechanical breakdowns internal in the engine.
No warranty cars are differnt. 5000 miles is good enough depending on driving.
anything a car dealer says is true
There definitely is nothin wrong with this, but with certain kinds of oils, you dont need to change your oil that often.
if its brand new no go every 4 to 5 thousand miles, if its an older car then yes go every 3 thousand. i work at a ford dealership in ther service department and i see trucks come in especialy new ones come in for 3,000 mile oil change and i see the oil and its fine! so wait a lil longer your wallet will love you more :)
NO MATTER WHAT THE CAR MFG. SAYS OR THE OIL CO SAYS YOU SHOULD CHANGE THE OIL EVERY 3000 MILES FAITHFULLY.
10 years ago maybe. Unless your towing or in dusty conditions the new oils now days are good for 5k. Pay the extra money for good oil and either use the manufactures oil filter or puralator, Mobil 1 etc. Fram is garbage end of story. The reason they say 3k so there is a better chance of them finding something to sell you. The manual that came with 2003 Mustang SVT Cobra that i bought new shows changing the oil at 5k. Save yourself some money and don't worry about it.
depends on your car, oil and filter system.
on my last car I only changed the oil once in 100K. (synthetic oil, active filter).
on my current car an onboard computer monitors the oil and tells you when to change it (honda odyssey). I have been doing about 8K between oil changes.
yes
if its a new car you need to do it between 3 and 5 thousand miles but older cars need it about every 2000
what does your owners manual say? how much are you willing to spend?
On the cheap side there is Wal-Mart oil (SL rated oil)that you can get a 5 qt jug for about $5 and a Wal-Mart filter for about $2, $7 for a oil change isn't bad.
On the other hand Mobile has a oil guaranteed for 15000 miles (also SL rated) that runs about $30 for 5 qts. Fram makes a filter, the XG model that is guaranteed for 7000 miles for $10.
I use Wal-Mart Synthetic oil $12 for 5qt jug, and the Fram XG filter $10 and change my oil every 7000 miles. I've never had any problems and all 3 of my vehicles have over 150000 miles on them.
On the other-hand, I have friends in Germany where oil prices are real expensive and they change their oil once a year
Hope this helps.

I have a possible cam shaft on my car as it ran out off oil..?
im taking it too garage tomorrow what do u think will be the price?
i am a woman of 22 so dont know. Car is a vauxhall astra 1.6LS petrol 2001 x reg.
making a loud ticking noise..
thank u for ur help and does it take a day to fix this problem or more?I have a possible cam shaft on my car as it ran out off oil..?
22 year old woman going to a garage and you dont know about cars???
Good luck with that one...I have a possible cam shaft on my car as it ran out off oil..?
You had a cam shaft before it ran out of oil. After it ran out of oil there are a number of things that could be wrong. Will it still run? If not expect to pay for an engine replacement.
BAD. I think it is sticking lifters.
You may try a special oil in the engine that may help. Go to a Auto Parts Supply store and get an opinion.
I suppose all the damage is done so it won't hurt to drive it...unless there is still no oil in it.
If it ran out of oil then it is possible that the oil was dirty too. That will cause a lot of problems too.
Good Luck..and take it to 2 or 3 shops. Most likely they will tell you need a new engine or rebuilt engine.
Being a woman you should be aware of any mechanic that wants to TRADE you services. I mean that too.
Every car has a cam shaft, so not quite sure what you mean there. You would be in trouble if you didn't have one! Erm, it could be any number of problems - is it running? Have you lost water? A ticking noise indicates the timing belt or something. Really sorry, but need more info me thinks.
Your question is kinda confusing. If you ran your car out of oil, you may have caused your bearings that move your camshaft to strip. You will also have to have it fully examined though because the first thing that will happen, usually, when you run your car out of oil is viscocity breakdown, which is when your pistons aren't lubed anymore and they rub against your cylinder walls and can cause a whole bunch of problems with your crank, valves, lifters, etc.
All that being said, it is going to cost you a lot of money to make sure everything is good to drive again. It may be just more cost effective to purchase a new engine or even a new car. I'm not familiar with your car so I wouldn't be able to tell you that unless I could see it for my self.
the tick could be lifters or valves. If the car runs I'd seriously think of getting rid of it...and check your oil from now on.
put heavy 15/40 oil in it and punt it on , or you could end up with repair bills totaling a full engine rebuild, might just be a sticky valve tho in which case is not a major problem see what you mechanic says
Sounds like the camshaft or followers are worn due to lack of oil.Need more info like 8 or 16 valve to give better advice.
Your car has a cam shaft they all do it is how part of how they work if you need it replaced it depends on the mechanic doing the work availability of the part and price of the part you are looking at close to one thousand dollars if you turned the crank which is most likely your problem if you ran it out of oil and have a tick that would be a knocking rod and you are looking at a whole lot more because you need to have the crank turned and new bearings
all cars have cam shafts, you dont know what the problem is so dont go into the garage and say you think its this. if its anything to do with the cynlider block or reqires any engine stripping it will be very expensive 400 upwards at a guess as its not a 10 min job. try to get 2 quotes from different garages, least u wont get ripped off. and dont go main dealer unless ure rich :)

Do i buy this car, mazda mx3, not sure about the oil??
I want to buy a mazda mx3 from a local dealer, when the car started up it was a little smokey. We took it for a drive, when we got back we removed the oil cap and it was a little smokey, and when you smelt the inside of the cap it smelt really strongly of burnt oil. We dipped the stick and the oil seemed nice and clean.Do i buy this car, mazda mx3, not sure about the oil??
Whats the year and cost? If this car is a late 90ish and $500, it would absolutley be worth it to buy it and dump the engine. Smoke tells you there is seriously something wrong. Either you have coolant entering the cyl, oil entering the cyl, or the previous driver didnt use any air filters and you have tons of garbage burning in the cyl. Either way, its going to be expensive to fix.
unless you plan on turning this into a project car, i would stay away from anything that smokes.
If the car is in decent shape, and you already have a motor picked out for it, go for it.Do i buy this car, mazda mx3, not sure about the oil??
why not pay for it looking at by the AA or rac at least you would get an honest opinion
Get it checked out ?
The dealer did all he could to make the car sell-able, but even he didn't think it was worth it to fix the problem. Instead, they are trying to hide the problem and pass it on. I guess they figure you'll be back and pay them more money to get it fixed, after you find all the problems.
If you're still interested in this car, take it to your own mechanic and have it checked out thoroughly
Do not buy before you have it checked out by an independent mechanic!
i own a repair shop and id be real careful about buying this one those was bad to get hot and warp the head, this may be where your seeing the smoke come from on it,those cars look good, and that's why people buy them but be careful you don't buy someone else problems,it could easily cost you around a 1000 bucks to get this fixed if it does have a smoking problem,so be careful you could get burned real good on this one, they have changed the oil in it,and the usually do this to hide problems, good luck i hope this helps.
Hi
Its probably had a recent oil change to hide an underlying problem and unless you plan to drop a new lump in it and its cheap enough to buy then WALK AWAY.
It sounds as though cylinder compressions and gases are getting into the sump past the rings, hence the smoke in the rocker cover, and if they can go one way they can come back the other, hence the smokey exhaust.
Cheers

Car drinking all engine oil ?
i have vectra 1.6 /1998
i changed engine oil last week
car started smokes white and i checked engine oil when arrived home,no oil in it,could anyone know whats wrong with it?even i checked under car but no oil leak,
also when can i check engine oil level when it is warm or cold?
might be engine was hot when i checked it
thanksCar drinking all engine oil ?
Then it can only be that it is burning oil in the combustion chamber. oil gets lost through worn cam followers valve stem seals piston rings and a number of worn engine parts. it could be forcing oil out through a seal or gasket and only under pressure so you will not really see seeping leakage if it is being blown backwards at speed. have a look along your exhaust and get the car above your head on a ramp to examine all signs of oil loss. If it isnt leaking then the engine is burning it.Car drinking all engine oil ?
Since it's not dripping oil, it's burning it. The most common causes are leaky gaskets (such as the oil pan gasket or valve cover gasket). Also check the valve guides and piston rings.
On the expensive side, it could be a head gasket or cracked engine block - this requires the removal and disassembly of the engine to replace a $5 gasket. You will pay the rest (~$2000-4000) in labor.
If that is the case, I'd consider getting a new car.
White smoke usually means a head gasket, the primary cause of water jacket leak. Could be your oil is in the radiator. Check this.
If there is no leak, could be rings or valves, but that would give you blue smoke.
There should be oil on the dipstick cold or hot.
look at the answers to virtually the same question you posted 10 mins ago...they still apply, and you
check engine oil level when the engine is cold, that way instead of the oil being dispersed around the engine, it has settled in the bottom of it
if it did not use oil before you changed it I would say you forgot to put the oil plug in or didn't tighten the filter properly in any case you problem caused some Major damage it would not be the first time something like that ha happened
Looks like your engine needs overhaul.Due to back compression the oil is turned into grease and looks like there is no oil in the chamber.
I note you said no signs of a leak but more importantly was the drain plug still in position or have you lost it because it wasn't tight enough after your service job?
either you have a very bad leak into your cooling system (headgasket) or more likely is your engine is on its last legs.
oil level check ONLY when cold and has to be flatly parked, slight incline won't give a true reading...
I'm no mechanic but Vauxhalls blow head gaskets a lot!!! had 1 Vauxall (never again!!)
Sounds like you need a ring job, probably broken oil rings.

My dad has a 91 cutlass seirra he had a oil change about a month ago now his car is losing power and smoking?
bad check the oil dip stick is showing way over full line any suggestions? thank you for your timeMy dad has a 91 cutlass seirra he had a oil change about a month ago now his car is losing power and smoking?
First I would check the oil filler cap is on ,since you did not say wear the smoke is coming from if the smoke is blue coming from the exhaust I would say youve got burn`t rings which will require a mechanic to fix if the smoke is white coming from the exhaust you have either a blown head gasket or a cracked head again requires a mechanic also just for kicks check the drain plug to make sure its there and tight enough so it isn`t leaking on the exhaust pipe its also possible for the valve covers to be leaking oil on the motorMy dad has a 91 cutlass seirra he had a oil change about a month ago now his car is losing power and smoking?
if your oil is over filled it can cause bubbling and ruin all your gaskets. i would have a mechanic look at it if you decide to sue the oil place.

Can you mix the oil you put in your car?
Oil is essentially about viscosity or thickness of the oil involved, it wont hurt the car to mix your oil but you would be best sticking to the manufacturers recommended oil viscosity. If you are topping up your oil regularly, there is more wrong with the car anyway, so dont start worrying about oil quality. Can you mix the oil you put in your car?
You can mix different weights together.
You can also put transmission fluid in the oil.
But don't run it like that for a long time.
The training fluid will clean the engine
before you change the oil.Can you mix the oil you put in your car?
Mix it with what???
Flour to make chocolate cakes????
You can mix oil although it's not recommended ...if you're just toping up because you have a leak then it's fine ... if you're doing a service you want to replace all the old oil with fresh
YES, I frequently do that an keep my cars for about 200,000 miles
you canot mix two types of oil with different properties. However, you may mix two different brand with the same property in an emergency.
I dont think so, thats why you drain it before you put new oil in.
You can but it's not recomended.different weight's and different brand's could cause your engine to start burning oil.stick to te factory recomended oil you will be better off.
yes you can!!

Lady's, Do you check the oil in your car, or do you make someone else do it?
I pretend I dont know how too, so my man will do it for me, Im so bad! :)Lady's, Do you check the oil in your car, or do you make someone else do it?
I do the same thing!! lol its great. He even changes my oil for me also, theres just something hot about watching your man work on ur car. hehe :)Lady's, Do you check the oil in your car, or do you make someone else do it?
I get my oil changed every 3,000 miles and my mechanic is very thorough so he has taught me to check my oil and to check all of the other fluids whenever i open the hood. If for some reason I don't have a reason he tells me to do it just to check the fluids, I cut his hair so when he calls for a hair cut he asks to make sure I have done so and tells me to keep checking it. He will call me to say hi, as we are friends and he will remind me, it is pretty funny I take care of his hair and he takes care of my car! It's a good deal........
I learned how to once in an Auto mechanics class, but it's been so long I've forgotten. Now my husband just does it for me. :)
I can do it myself if I have to, I'm quite good with cars and can do most things but my hubby usually checks them both.
I know how to , but my hubby does it
I do it myself. Easy as pie!!!
I know how to do it, but I don't remember to do it. Besides, my hubby usually has my vehicle for work and I have his.
I know how and my hubbie knows that I know how but he still does it for me. He's a sweetie and he likes to take care of things like that for me.
I check my own. Actually I check all the fluids in my car on a regular basis as well as check the tires. I taught my daughters to do the same when they started to learn to drive. I love my man - he's very useful - but this I can do myself.
Knowing how and having to are different creatures. I both know how to do it and how to get out of doing it....female trait worth nurturing.
i know how, but i just don't do it. that's a man's job! kind of how like my hubby knows how to wash dishes and do laundry but i do it.
Yes I like to get the old dipstick out ,anyway I,m very independent,if I can do a thing myself I always do it.......
I have him do it. It's like taking out the trash, it's the ';guys job';.
I don't usually bother, just cuz i'm good about getting in changed regularly...
I know how and I know how to change my own oil! but do I do it! NAW only when I am single and dont have one around that can do it for medebt consolidation loan

What oil does my car need?
it is ford focus 2003 with 77779 milesWhat oil does my car need?
I use conventional 10w40. It's pretty standard. I think your instruction manual might give you a suggestion for weight of oil. What oil does my car need?
Excerpt from your Owners Manual:
SAE 5W-20 engine oil is recommended.
Only use oils “Certified For Gasoline Engines” by the American Petroleum Institute (API). Use Motorcraft or an equivalent oil meeting Ford specification WSS M2C153–H. SAE 5W-20 oil provides optimum fuel economy and durability performance meeting all requirements for your vehicle’s engine. Do not use supplemental engine oil additives, oil treatments or engine treatments. They are unnecessary and could, under certain conditions, lead to engine damage which is not covered by your warranty. Change your engine oil and filter according to the appropriate schedule listed in the scheduled maintenance guide [every 5000 miles is recommended]. Ford production and aftermarket (Motorcraft) oil filters are designed for added engine protection and long life. If a replacement oil filter is used that does not meet Ford material and design specifications, start-up engine noises or knock may be experienced. It is recommended you use the appropriate Motorcraft oil filter (or another brand meeting Ford specifications) for your engine application.
Well, seems that everyone is suggesting 5w30, whch seems pretty good. You really DO NEED to check to make sure it's the specific one. Old cars, back in the ancient 1960s to 1980s could use 10w30 or 10w40, which are standard oils. But engines are made so much more precise that you need very specific oils now, you can't just put in any weight to have the car last any long time. Call the Ford dealer and ask them to be sure.
But now, what brand?? I suggest Castrol. I've had excellent use of it, altho' I haven't used it for long time, gong with cheapo walmart oil. The walmart oil is okay, but Castrol has proven to be much better. It's little more expensive, but well worth it. When I use Castrol, I can feel the engine runnng easier and smoother, and it has meant better gas mileage for me, too.
Some people like older oils like Penzoil, Quaker, but I stay away from them.
There are diff kinds of Castrol oil---such as for high performance, or Suv, or for hgh mileage engines. But just go with the regular Castrol. I think you'll find it quite good stuff. But everyone has their favorites and their junk. But I think Castol is one of the best.
this is why i left the automotive section, too many stupid people giving blatantly wrong answers, 10w40 will kill that engine, 5w20 is correct, but try also looking at your oil cap, it will tell you if its 5w20,
With your current mileage.... 5W30 should be acceptable. The original oil was 5W20. but at almost 80K.... go with the 5W30.
I would go with the 5W-30 and preferably synthetic! The synthetic will help maintain your car's overall long-term reliability
The dealerships us 10w40 in their Ford engine. With age on it us 10w50.
It should be 5w-30. Almost all cars since the late 90's use 5w 30.
10w30 will work just fine.

Changing oil in the car?
assitance or adviseChanging oil in the car?
the most important thing is when changing oil is to make sure that you put the right amount of oil and not more
also try to put in the same kind of old oil
if oil was to dirty when changed then change the filter before changing the filter use a engine cleaner that you add to the engine so it will clean the rest of the old oil
ARE YOU DOING IT ALL BY YOUR SELF
HAVE YOU EVER DONE IT BY YOURSELFChanging oil in the car?
i'm old fashioned and believe you look after a car it looks after you. i change at 1500 miles or 2500 k (approx) with a good quality oil like pennzoil or quakerstate. use a good filter and change it each time i recomend fram. why change your oil and not the filter? some people do. it's like sh itting your pants taking a shower and putting on the same pants. i also recomend heavier oil 10w30 not 5w 30 as most places put in . then assuming you have a filter wrench and socket set drive your car up the ramps or jack it up, put a cinder block under the frame for safety in case of slippage. place drain pan below oil pan and remove drain plug . while its draining remove filter and wipe around engine where it was with clean cloth. put a drop or 2 of oil on your finger and lubricate the fiter gasket(little trick my late pappa taught me) replace filter til it is tight then back off1/4 turn from the tightest youcan make it. by then oil should be drained. replace drain plug and refill oil. start engine and check for leaks. alls well remove cinder block lower jack or take off the ramps shut off engine let sit at least 45 mins. check to make sure oil level is correct add a little if neccassary and your good to go for anothr 1500 miles or 2-3 months.
if your doing it yourself, it's pretty easy.. you will need a cloth or some towels. a pair of pliers or a wrench. next, you will need to jack the car up a little (in the front). pop the hood and remove the oil cap.should be labled. crawl under the front of the car and find the oil pan. usually about 1 foot x 1 foot or so with a nut on the bottom. get a drain pan cheap from the auto center and a filter designed for your car, they can help you with that, next remove the nut (called a plug also) and let all the oil drain, then remove the filter. oil the top of new filter and screw it on..just snug, the plug should be good and tight. now crawl out and add about 5 courts of oil, check level, cap and drive. good luck!
if u just wanna change the oil of ur auto mobile
1. park it in a plain area, open its drain plug .allow entire oil to drain.
2.close the drain plug .fill 2ltrs of engine cleaner and just crank it for 3 seconds.
3.drain it,leave it to drain for 20 min.close the drain plug .
3.change the old oil filter, replace it with the new one.
4.fill new oil up to the level adviced by the ur auto maker.
u done it ..........plz do this if u r not new 2 automobiles.
I'll give you some of the basics and you can email me for specifics and I'll walk you through it if needed. Things you will (or might need):
1 - New replacement oil filter for your make and model of car.
2 - An oil catch pan.
3 - Rags to wipe your hands.
4 - Wear old clothes because you are likely to get a couple of spatters on yourself.
5 - Socket set to fit oil plug in oil pan.
6 - Funnel that is wide enough and large enough to catch your oil as you put the new oil in, and pour the old oil into a recycling container. If your funnel isn't large enough your oil will out over the top and you will be frustrated.
Remember the funnel is going to tip sideways because of the weight of the oil!
7 - Might need the following: hydraulic jack, one jackstand.
8 - Sufficient number of quarts of oil to fill your engine WITH a filter change. This may be one half of a quart greater than the manufacturers specification, but they should tell you something like ';four quarts for oil change and 4.5 quarts for oil change WITH filter';. If they are not specific then you will have to check once you are done changing the oil and filter. I'll tell you how.
9 - Protective gloves for your hands.
10 - Optional: gel hand cleaner (GoJo, Permatex, generic brand [GoJo is usually the cheapest]).
11 - Oil filter wrench (distinct possibility).
Basic procedure (doesn't cover exactly every step):
1 - Locate oil drain plug on vehicle and see if you can reach it from underneath without jacking the car up. If you can't get to it, try turning the wheel to the right or left until you can reach it.
1A - Park car on level surface and place in park and put on emergency brake.
2 - Assuming you can reach the oil drain plug, loosen with your socket set - or crescent wrench that will work - until it is loose. Do not remove right away.
3 - Place oil catch basin under oil pan, angled such that when you take the plug out and the oil starts pouring in a stream, it goes into the pan and not on the ground. Take a minute to think: Which direction is this oil going to go? Usually if you position the pan halfway under the plug it will drain okay.
4 - Remove oil drain plug by hand the rest of the way. Oil will start to pour into the pan. If you can't move the plug by hand then carefully work your socket or crescent wrench under there and get it out. There is %26gt; 50% chance the oil plug will fall into the oil catch basin. Do not panic. Leave it in there until later.
5 - Open hood on car and leave open. Locate oil fill cap. Remove and set aside usually on air filter cover. This is necessary to allow air to enter the engine cavity and fully drain your oil.
6 - Remove oil filter. This is the hardest part, and you will have to use some of your own judgement. Depending on where the filter is located you will have to get at it from either the top or underneath. Using a rag, grasp the filter tightly and turn to the left to screw it off. Having the oil catch basin under there to catch oil spilling from the filter is optimum. My filters are on hand tight and this is what the manufacturer recommends, but you may have one of those death valley grip filters. In this case you will have to use an oil filter wrench. However you have to get if off you have to get if off. I've omitted some extra tips here because the answer will be too long.
7 - Okay now you should have your oil filter off, your drain plug out, and your oil fill cap off. Now we go backwards.
8 - Find your oil drain plug and make sure it has the washer on it. Fish around in the oil pan if you have to in order to find it. You MUST have the washer on the plug. You MUST.
9 - Reinstall oil drain pan plug and tighten. It doesn't have to be as tight as a lug nut, but it must be tight. No death valley tightening. That's what the copper washer is on there for.
10 - Fill new oil filter 1/2 way up with new oil and spin oil filter around horizontally to work in oil. Lubricate new oil filter rubber gasket with old oil from oil catch basin using your finger. Reinstall oil filter and HAND TIGHTEN to specifications. This is usually 3/4 of a tightening turn once you start to feel resistance. It has to be tight enough or oil will splatter out the seal or it will leak.
11 - Fill up engine with new oil. Replace oil cap.
12 - Check for leaks underneath car. Is oil pouring out anywhere?
13 - Start vehicle and recheck for leaks again immediately. You shouldn't hear any hard knocking coming from the engine and your oil pressure light should not come on. If you hear hard knocking or your oil filter light comes on you shut down the car immediately and find out where the leak is.
14 - After running engine for 2-3 minutes, shut off and check engine oil level using dipstick. Add oil if necessary to raise to fill mark.
15 - Pour your used oil into a recycling container and take to recycling center along with old oil filter. I use old laundry detergent containers to recycle my oil in.
16 - Clean up area of any spilled oil using rag or cat litter to absorb spilled oil.
This procedure doesn't cover every single situation you may run into. Use it as a guide, and have fun.
the most important thing is when changing oil is to make sure that you put the right amount of oil and not more
also try to put in the same kind of old oil
if oil was to dirty when changed then change the filter before changing the filter use a engine cleaner that you add to the engine so it will clean the rest of the old oil

Are Oil Companies really keeping electric cars from being further developed or not?
Yes or No?
Why don't electric companies lobby for this, or push for this if this is something that would benefit them greatly. Is there some war between the Oil and Electric companies? Are Oil Companies really keeping electric cars from being further developed or not?
I would say that it's more likely for the auto manufacturers to oppose electric cars since the cost of batteries are quite high due to the materials required and currently, any mass production would drive those prices up due to the limited supply of lithium. The auto manufacturers do want to introduce another technology as it would create a demand for new vehicles above normal replacement cycles. They've always invested in designed obsolescence whether it be style changes such as tail fins, concept changes such as SUV's, or technology changes such as Hybrids, Flexfuel and more powerful engines. The net effect of these introductions has been to allow production growth at a higher rate than the population growth. Electric vehicles do fit into this model but not as well as hydrogen cars since the batteries would represent a significant cost that could not be reduced whereas fuel cells though expensive now, are likely to become less expensive when in mass production as it's more technology than materials.
EV's represent a problem for Electric companies as the transmission infrastructure is already at it's limits. There is surplus capacity but at different time slots so charge on demand EV's would be costly to Electric companies however if the transmission lines are made intelligent and can coordinate with the EV's that are plugged in to schedule their charges, they could maximize the use of existing transmission lines. Hence Electric companies are in a quandry, if EV's are introduced before intelligent transmission line protocols are standardized and enforced on the plugins, they would have to upgrade their infrastructure but if intelligent infrastructure can be deployed first and auto manufacturers cooperate then the Electric companies stand to benefit. Unfortunately, deploying intelligence in the power grid is not a trivial task so the Electric companies can do with as much delay in EV introductions as possible.
Oil companies see themselves as Energy companies and invest in every form of energy development. Many of the fundamentals are the same, the property negotiations and land leasing for wind power is very similar to securing drilling rights and right of ways for pipelines so oil companies are still the most experienced at those tasks. Granted they will promote whatever is most profitable at the time but you can bet that whatever comes out on the market, the oil companies will be positioned to take advantage of it.Are Oil Companies really keeping electric cars from being further developed or not?

My car takes 5W-20 oil but I put in 10W-30. Is this bad?
Should I go get it drained????My car takes 5W-20 oil but I put in 10W-30. Is this bad?
you will be fine for 3,000 miles and then the next oil change put in the correct oil.My car takes 5W-20 oil but I put in 10W-30. Is this bad?
If it's a Hybrid, it can be a problem.
Any other car, it's perfectly fine. You might lose 1/4mpg, but that's it. Just keep in mind the 5W-20 next time.... although are you sure it isn't 5W30?
My car calls for 5W30, when I was having an oil burning problem I put straight 50 weight in to slow it down.
its fine...but r u sure it calls for 5w 20 not 5w 30?/ they put in super thin oil to get 1/10th extra mpg...helps fleet average but i dont like those super thins...leak easyier...10w 30 is fine
My Mazda uses 5W-20 and that's all I would ever use. You are probably ok but why take the risk when you could get a $20 oil change?
dont worry about it now/next time it will be cooler and then back to 5-20

My car is a Dodge Neon 1997, lately the oil light keeps coming on.?
after i put in a quart a day.. I know a leak right? What do you do for this? Yousa! Is it expensiveMy car is a Dodge Neon 1997, lately the oil light keeps coming on.?
Your head gasket is leaking oil at the right rear corner of the engine. Those cars are famous for that problem. Just ask ANY Chrysler tech. Expect to pay about 6.5 hours of labour plus the head gasket KIT, which includes ALL gaskets needed for the repair from the CHRYSLER DEALER (not expensive). That will fix your problem. Hope this helps. My car is a Dodge Neon 1997, lately the oil light keeps coming on.?
Tahe it to a mechanic, also watch putting to much oil in that can cause just as many problems as being low.
You mentioned you put in a quart a day! Are you ';really'; low on oil when you do that or just adding it because of the light. If so then you might be way overfull and that is really bad. If you are well over the full mark the oil hits the crankshaft as the crank turns. This foams the oil up so much that the oil pump starts trying to pump foam. Foam ain't going to pump through that engine so the pressure drops to nothing even though you have ';too much'; oil in it. This trips theoil light naturally. Reason I am asking this is that a quart low will never trip an oil pressure light on a car as there is still plenty of oil and pressure there. If you are losing pressure either you are much lower on oil than you claim, have a bad engine with worn bearings and such, or way too much oil in it as I mentioned is a possibility. Be sure and check the oil with the motor off and after it has sat for a couple of minutes. Like others have mentioned an oil leak this major could be simple. Oil sending unit, which is the device that makes that light come on could simply be defective itself and leak. They are under up to 60 lbs of pressure and made of plastic so a tiny leak will leak a lot of oil in a short time. They are cheap and only take a few minutes to replace as well. Get somebody to check this as you don't want to ruin the engine either way. That light is telling you that you have no pressure and that you are damaging the engine running it like that when that light is on. Hopefully will be one of the easy to fix things that we have all suggested so far. If you are too full of oil have the excess drained out before cranking the car again. Good luck and hope you find the exact cause soon.
that leak you talk about, can be some thing simple, lile the oil pan bolts may need tightning, all the way up to a bad oil seal some ware.
I suggest you have a trusted mechanic take a look at it. A quart of oil a day is way to heavy of a consumption. Way too much.debt consolidation loan

What oil does my car need?
it is a honda civic with 68954 milesWhat oil does my car need?
look in your owners manual if you have it.What oil does my car need?
depends on the driving conditions
if you drive for a long time in hot conditions i suggest 10W-30
if you don't drive much like just 10 miles a day in regular or cold conditions use 5W-30
I always use 5W-30 because many people recommend it and i always feel that my car runs better
I would recommend a full synthetic 5W-30. Synthetic is a little more expensive than standard motor oil, but it will insure your Honda's long-term reliability!
depending on the year, 5-30 or 5-20. before 00, 5-30, some 99's and from 00 to present, 5-20. any brand will work, i'd try a synthetic in it too. start with castrol

I had a oil change done on my 99 buick century and one week later .i start my car & my oilfilter blowsoff?
tell me whats wrong with itI had a oil change done on my 99 buick century and one week later .i start my car %26amp; my oilfilter blowsoff?
they didn't put it on tight enough or it was the wrong filter, needless to say I would take it back to them and make them fix it and then never ever go back there for an oil change.I had a oil change done on my 99 buick century and one week later .i start my car %26amp; my oilfilter blowsoff?
whoever changed your oil, didnt get it on tight enough,or they stripped the threads.
two posibles.
cheap oil filter
oil pressure release valve stuck close.
I think you may find that when they put the oil filter on they did not check to see if the old rubber seal came off with the old filter. When you have two rubber seals on with the oil filter it will blow the seal off and sometimes the oil filter also as it would then be loose. It has happened before this way.
They only finger tightened it and didn't give it the 1/4 turn more with a wrench. Have it towed back to the oil change place and raise Holy Crap with them
Sounds Like someone stripped the threads on something.. hope its the oil filter rather than the mount...
the person didn't put the filter on tight, call them and tell who ever put it on about it.
maybe they forced it in instead of screwing it in properly, and the pressure built up and shot it off.

Is there an oil additive you can use to unseize a 4 cylinder car motor?
The best additive to a car with a seized motor is a match. Most effective when added through fuel filler. Is there an oil additive you can use to unseize a 4 cylinder car motor?
you can try transmission fluid, that might help.Is there an oil additive you can use to unseize a 4 cylinder car motor?
If it is seized from sitting you can take out all spark plugs and spray a whole lot of W-D 40 in the cylinders. Let it set for a couple of days. This work it's way thru rust and build up from sitting. If it was running when it seized, don't even bother with it. It will do nothing but give you trouble even if you can build it and I doubt that very much.
depends on why it is seized up if it just sat for a long period of time you mite have hope if it seized up while running you can just about rite it off if it just sat along time and is seized up you can try removing the spark plugs and pouring motor oil into the cylinders and let them sit for a day this may losen the rust around the rings and let them move ,ihave done this my self with an old 1960 chevy truck good luck
if it's siezed up to the point that it wont rotate, yer better off buying a whole new engine. there's no lubricant that will free it. the cheapest way to check is to remove the cylinder head and look in the chambers. if there's no goo, the rings have probably welded themselves to the bores and it's never gonna run again. if it is goo, it might be cleanable, but it's better to get a new engine anyways

Should I expect a 500 dollars repair? some little part replacement? Should I worry? Its a 1997 honda accord. Thank youMy car is leaking oil. I wont drive it until the mechanic takes a look at it...what should I expect?
How much oil? Your car is eleven years old so it probably will leak a little. Also, did this happen right after an oil change? I ask this as a little oil can spill onto the undercarriage of the car and drip down until its gone.
Any ways, to be sure you can drive it, you can check the oil level. The manual will tell you how to do it or you can do a search for it. But, you will have a dipstick in your engine that you pull out, wipe off with a clean paper towel or rag, stick back into the engine, and then pull out and read the oil level. If it is low according to the marks on the dip stick then you need to add more oil.
However, your leak is probably due to a seal. Either around the oil pan, the bolt that your oil is drained out of, or the oil pump. All three of these are your primary culprits. If it is the oil pump, then, he repair will be highest, followed by the oil pan, and then the bolt. At eleven years either the seal around the oil pump or oil pan will need to be replaced. I can not comment on the cost as each car is different. But, I will hazard a guess and say that $500 is way more then you can expect to pay unless your oil pump is faulty --unlikely-- or you have to replace your oil pan --unlikely unless you hit something.
I am thinking about $250 max. unless that oil pump has failed. My car is leaking oil. I wont drive it until the mechanic takes a look at it...what should I expect?
WHOA, don't go assuming what it is folks. Don't make her worry about what hasn't come, or assume it'll be all ok. It depends on where the leak is coming from, and how much is leaking as to how bad it is. Repairs could be anywhere from $50 - $4000+ depending on what needs fixed. Some things like that you never know how bad they are until you're in them, like I just did my clutch on my 82 celica, and the next time I do it I'll need a new flywheel, because it was almost trashed as it was, plus I had to do my rear main seal and oil pan gasket. My $70 repair quickly escalated to almost $200, in parts and machine fees alone. I can't imagine what it would have cost at a shop.
It's probably a $5 fix as it could be as little as a loose nut or just a hole in the oil pan. well..$5 fix if you fixed it, but a mechanic will charge 60-70 or so.
Your gaskets are leaking oil if they have never been replaced, and trust me it is more than $500 dollars to repair.
It could be as simple as a loose oil filter, head, valve covers, oil pan, etc.
Is it black, or red oil? where is the leak? specific details matter.

Is it possible for a car to have trouble starting due to a low oil level?
Depending on the car model, if the oil pressure is too low due to a low oil level, this will shut off the electric fuel pump. This would cause hard starting. Is it possible for a car to have trouble starting due to a low oil level?
no, it would start fine. it's something else usually weak ignition(needs a tune up) or bad or dirty gas (need to change the filter) change the air filter too. always keep the oil level in the safe range or you will spin a rod bearing and destroy the engine. Is it possible for a car to have trouble starting due to a low oil level?
Under normal circumstances the low oil level will not cause hard starting of the engine. But if you do start it then you could possibly cause damage to the engine depending on how low the level is.
fill your oil, if it is that low change the oil and filter. the only car i can tell you will not start because of low oil pressure is the chev. vega
';low'; oil? Not likely.
';no'; oil? Absolutely.
some cars will shut off when the oil gets too low.that,s so it will protect the engine.
you should not run the car AT ALL if the oil is low. refill it immediately!!!!

My car shut down while driving, plenty of gas,oil and coolant.wouldn't respond to a jump what's the deal?
This happened to me a while ago. I was driving down the road and it just turned off. Nothing seemed wrong, but it wouldn't start back up. The timing belt had broken. In an older car, it would pretty destroy everything around it, but my engine automatically shut off to prevent further damage once the belt broke. This happened on a 95 Ford Escort. My car shut down while driving, plenty of gas,oil and coolant.wouldn't respond to a jump what's the deal?
More information please - make, model, year, does the engine crank but not fire when jumped or not crank at all?My car shut down while driving, plenty of gas,oil and coolant.wouldn't respond to a jump what's the deal?
If the batteries dead, could be the alternator. If it trys to crank but wont, could be fuel filter. There are other possibilities. good luck
plenty of gas in the tank but is it reaching the engine. you might try changing the fuel filter to start out with.
the alternator for sure is my guess...
should cost around 220 after parts and labordebt consolidation loan

Wife overfilled car with 2.5 qts. of oil, started smoking heavily, what should i do.?
drained some of the oil probaly not enough, she drove off with less smoke coming out but then the car started misfiring. should i drain more oil or all the oil, do you think the spark plugs fouled. looking for advice. car is a 1987 300zx nissan.Wife overfilled car with 2.5 qts. of oil, started smoking heavily, what should i do.?
you should not let wife put oil in car ... 464 15 9868Wife overfilled car with 2.5 qts. of oil, started smoking heavily, what should i do.?
Drain enough oil to get it at the proper level, if you're worried about the spark plugs remove them and check them, If the car is still smoking when the oil is at the proper level you're probably going to need to replace a gasket. It is possible it is a coincidence that the car is misfiring now and it's a separate issue, since it is an older car it's possible something else is wrong. does it misfire at idle or only high rpm's
Drain the overfilled crankcase until the oil level is at the correct level. Then next time you put the oil in.
Drain the oil and start over. The plus are probably oil fouled, but you may get lucky and be able to let it run for a while and see if they clean up. I would think that as long as there isn't any new source of oil in the combustion chamber, then it should clean up in no time. If not, then replace the plugs.
check oil and get right level. if still missing change plugs.

I think I've put more engine oil than the limit in me car ... what to do?
Hi ! I was just doing regular maintenance on my car and I saw that the oil was a little less. I put some oil in it myself but now ... the scale is showing that I have gone over the MAX point. So ... if the scale is 1-10 ... I'm at 13 or 14.
Just wondering, should I leave it like that or should I take it out by opening the nut under the car. Would it matter if I just left it in there ?I think I've put more engine oil than the limit in me car ... what to do?
running the engine with too much oil can cause pressure that will blow out the oil seals and you will have major leaks.
Drain it and get it right or you might be sorry.I think I've put more engine oil than the limit in me car ... what to do?
i wouldnt leave it like that, the inside of your car will be really smokey and smell really bad until your burned it back down to what its supposed to be, which would take some time, so id say drain some out
drain it out into a clean container then put in the correct amount
Drain the plug a bit, or just get an oil change. I suppose a siphone could work, but I doubt it.
less than a quart over full won't hurt anything. If it was low when you checked it it must a have a slight leak or burn a little bit. It will be fine in a few days.
depends on how over full it is. if you have more than a quart too much, have the oil drained and re-filled. if its a half quart, it shouldn't hurt anything.

What oil grade best for oil burning 10 yr old car w/200+K miles in Fla? Uses qt./200-300mi.?
I would try a 20W50 oil, and check the oil every time you fill the tank with fuel. What oil grade best for oil burning 10 yr old car w/200+K miles in Fla? Uses qt./200-300mi.?
IF YOUR USING A QT OF OIL EVERY 200-300 MILES, YOU HAVE A MAJOR PROBLEM. PISTON RINGS ARE PROBABLY WORN OUT, MAIN AND ROD BEARINGS OF YOUR CRANKSHAFT ARE CLOSE TO FAILING. A HEAVIER OIL WILL HELP, BUT IT WON'T MAKE MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE UNTIL YOU A) FIX THE CAR OR OBVIOUSLY B) GET ANOTHER CAR. IF FINANCES ARE AN ISSUE, TRY AN OIL ADDITIVE SUCH AS ';RESTORE'; OIL TREATMENT; IT WORKS WELL WITH OIL BURNING CARS AND SLOWS DOWN THE AMOUNT OF OIL YOU ARE ADDING REGULARLY.What oil grade best for oil burning 10 yr old car w/200+K miles in Fla? the cheapest motor oil you can find. walmart has 4, 5 and 5.5 quart jugs pretty cheap. your engine is going to waste it at the same rate whether you put 5-30 or 20-50, it doesn't matter at all. the first number listed has a ';w'; next to it that indicates ';winter'; or how the oil behaves at cooler temperatures (cold engine) and the second number is the viscosity at engine temperature (200 ish). even 20W/50 gets pretty thin at 200 degrees, and it'll blow right by the oil rings on your piston just the same as another viscosity

I just changed my oil and filter. Why doesn't my car accelerate or reverse now?
2003 Toyota Corolla.
sometimes I could drive it forward a lit bit but at 4000-5000 rpms.I just changed my oil and filter. Why doesn't my car accelerate or reverse now?
Did the fluid that you drained have a reddish hue to it? If it did, you drained the tranny fluid. You should be able to smell something burning when you drive. If you are sure you added the oil in the right place, then you better fill up your transmission before it gets destroyed.I just changed my oil and filter. Why doesn't my car accelerate or reverse now?
sounds like you changed the trans filter and oil. in which case you are likely (very!) low on trans fluid right now. also DONT i repeat Dont drive it reving like that to move, it will burn up the trans!
You drained the transmission and it is nearly empty. You refilled the oil into the crankcase and now it is overfilled with dirty oil. This is a hard mistake to make , but I saw a guy do it to a Mercedes. It wasn't and isn't funny.Next time look in the repair manual- this time look in the repair manual. Change the oil again. Refill the transmission and be sure you use thie right transmission fluid. Ask the service dept at Toyota, not the guys at the generic car parts store. You car has a shorter life now. So sorry.
Which oil did you change the crankcase oil or trans fluid? sounds like you drained the trans and didnt fill it again. or put the oil/fluid in the wrong place. better pull your engine oil dipstick and see how much oil you have in the oil pan. bet you put the wrong fluid in the wrong place.
I think the other answer is right ..where did you put the oil in the transmission filler pipe? Better tow it to a shop and get someone to look quick or else face a huge bill for not knowing better. sorry
did you put the oil in the crankcase or the transmission? better check .

HELP! ACCIDENTALLY PUT 2 CYCLE OUTBOARD OIL IN MY CAR!!!?
I accidentally super tech outboard motor oil in my car. I only put a little bit in when i noticed i had no clue what i was doing than i read the outboard on the jug.... what do i do?HELP! ACCIDENTALLY PUT 2 CYCLE OUTBOARD OIL IN MY CAR!!!?
It depends on exactly how much you put in. If you put in less than a quart, I'd say you're fine. Just make sure the oil is at the correct level at all times. If you really really want to be sure, drain the oil and change it along with the filter.
Pay better attention next time!HELP! ACCIDENTALLY PUT 2 CYCLE OUTBOARD OIL IN MY CAR!!!?
Theres nothing serious done to your car at all as long as you havent been driving it for weeks with this stuff in it. Just drain your oil out and replace it with the correct oil.
It wil lbe ok just top up with your normal engine oil .

Is the Tesla Roadster going to get ';killed'; like the other electric cars by the stupid oil companies?
The Tesla is a big problem for big oil. Since they basically control the government with their puppet of a president, they might try to stop it from being made.Is the Tesla Roadster going to get ';killed'; like the other electric cars by the stupid oil companies?
The Tesla costs 98.000$. The fuel cost is less then 2c/mile.
Based on the average fuel consumption of American cars, which is 27.5 miles per gallon, and the price per gallon, which is 2.23$/gallon, it costs 8.11c to drive an ordinary car 1 mile making the cost of the Tesla to less then 1/4th the fuel cost of ordinary cars.Is the Tesla Roadster going to get ';killed'; like the other electric cars by the stupid oil companies?
Sooo ... you are willing to spend $70,000 on batteries to save $6,000 in gas.
Brilliant, abso-f'in-lutely brilliant!!! Report Abuse
Gee, and to stop polluting the air. What's your health worth grizzbr1? Nevermind, you're obviously brain dead. Report Abuse
No $90,000 dollar car is a big problem for big oil. In fact, no electric car is a big problem for big oil since no electric car today or any electric car likely to be seen in the future is competative with conventional fueled vehicles.
The Tesla for example, costs $90,000 plus and cannot match the performance of a several $70,000 cars. At $3.50/gal, I can buy almost 6,000 gallons of gasoline with the difference. Thats enough to drive over 100,000 miles. I think I'll buy the Porsche, Z06, GT-R.
Electric cars can't have a significant effect on the environment unless the electric power industry thats going to recharge the Tesla stops burning fossil fuel, and I see them moving away from that at a glacier like pace.
Lets see u make it work are u able to do it . The oil co want buy u out.
It has already been ';made';, no one can stop that.
As for commercial production ... if I recall correctly just the batteries in the Tesla cost nearly $70,000 USD.
The Tesla design may die, but it will likely be replaced with better products and designs.
I feel that battery technology is the biggest hurdle for electric vehicles right now. They're big, heavy, expensive, and require a decent amount of maintenance.
Electric motors, speed controllers, and drive systems are great - fewer moving parts than gasoline engines and less maintenance, so its really the area of batteries that needs to see improvement before the electric vehicle industry can really take off.
Stop with the conspiracies. Americans want gasoline powered cars.

Puddle of oil under my car...?
I walked outside to take the trash out and found a puddle of oil under my car...I checked the dip stick and of course its empty. What would make it dump all that oil out?Puddle of oil under my car...?
Oil filter not on correctly...hole in oil pan....oil plug loose... may be more reasons possible, but that is 3 I can think of quickly. Best find the problem and repair it while you still have an engine.Puddle of oil under my car...?
A lot of things could have happened. Did you have an oil change recently (like within a day or so)? The oil change shop may not have put the oil drain plug all the way back in. Did you hit something? Something could have punctured the oil pan. Did someone mess with your car? Does it have an oil cooler, an oil cooler line could have gotten ripped off. An oil galley plug could have popped out. A gasket could have developed a leak. Lots of things could have happened.
I would suggest having a mechanic look at it for you, or if you feel adventurous, look underneath the car yourself and try to determine where the leak began. There's really too many different things that could have happened to point any particular thing out, especially with the limited amount of information you've given.
Blown gasket on the oil pan. hole in oil pan, busted main seal, loose oil plug or oil filter, hole in oil filter. If you tell me what type of and year of car you have I might be able to narrow it down. how big is the puddle. If it is huge it happened right now. if it is small then it leaked over time and could also be a leaky valve cover gasket or oil cover. have it towed to your nearest repair shop and hope for the best. older cars tend to wear out motor mounts and the engine will actually rest on the suspension and wear a hole in the oil pan. Most of what I have mentioned can be expensive to fix. will be much more expensive if you run it without oil.
Well, you got a lot of good answers already. But you can't drive your car with no oil in the sump. If it's draining slowly, you can refill and drive to your mechanic, but if it won't hold oil you need to have the car towed.
Stripped drain plug, double gasketed oil filter, bad drain plug gasket.
Proly got a busted seal, or the drain plug wasnt installed all the way, im guessin the seal though.
usually the only leak that occurs while the car is off is the oil pan. if it's damaged or rusted through. check there first.
Don't Start the MOTOR,,till more oil is put in..
scoot under there and look up.
Maybe you blew an oil cooler line. Maybe your oil pan plug is loose. Maybe the pan got damaged. Maybe.. maybe.. maybe.... Too many options. Someone just has to look.
loose nut possibly. get it checked out asap.
leaking that much you better check to see if the drain plug is still on.
Possible bad drain plug gasket...... It could be a few things.
a loose oil plug
I'd take a wild guess and say a leak
Oil filter not on correctly...hole in oil pan....oil plug loose... may be more reasons possible, but that is 3 I can think of quickly. Best find the problem and repair it while you still have an engine.Puddle of oil under my car...?

My car was ';tapping'; so I changed the oil. That stopped that noise. Then it started running really rough....
Then we changed the wires and plugs. it is still running rough. Someone told me to have the fuel injectors checked/cleaned, but that cost a little more than I have to work with right now. Is there anything else I could check before spending the money for a certified mechanic? What is a PVC valve and would that have anything to do with the way my car is running now?My car was ';tapping'; so I changed the oil. That stopped that noise. Then it started running really rough....
a PCV valve is the positive crankcase ventilation valve. Basically it vents some air into the crankcase while stopping oil from leaving the case. While it can make a difference and is recommended to be replaced, more than likely no it is not the cause of the problem. But for the 5 dollars it will cost, it never hurts to replace it. Just becareful with the hose depending on the age of the vehicle it may snap and you will then have to cut it short or replace it as well.My car was ';tapping'; so I changed the oil. That stopped that noise. Then it started running really rough....
A pcv valve is a positive crankcase ventilation valve and has absolutely nothing to do with your problem.Your problem has nothing to do with oil. It sounds like you have a ';floating'; head valve. This means a set of valvesprings is probably trash.A mechanic will tell you the entire head is ruined to get this head from you.Be careful. Its just the springs and seals that needs work. Its a Head problem. Not a timing issue. But the tune up never hurts!!Dont fool with the injectors, That was poor advice.Take the head off and take it to your local machine shop, they can fix this.Buy a new head gasket and find a decent mechanic to refit worked head. Also if you dont know which head it is Take them both off, your only out two Gaskets...
when was the last oil change before this one?and how well have you kept up with maintenance with the car.the reason i ask is so i can tell witch way to go .but lets try this.OK you might be talking about the pcv valve (positive crankcase ventilation)valve.the pcv valve restricts the air flow when the intake manifold vacuum is high.its usually located on your valve cover its an elbow with a hose attached to and the other end goes into the valve cover.it is recommend it to replace the valve after 60.000 miles or 60 months.also check the hose that goes on the pcv it might be cracked causing a vacuum leak.
and yea this valve well make your car run rough.try replacing it . it cost about 5 bucks.
The tapping sound is most likely the valves/lifters. Can't say for sure what it might be but you will need to have a mechanic look at it. Nothing ';you'; can do from the outside of the engine.
the tapping may have been the oil thining and your valves needing to be adjusted. valves that arent properly adjusted will cause a car to run rough
--good luck
it sounds like the valves just need to be adjusted. i just had it done it cost me 150 bucks including gaskets my car runs like new again. if the valves are tapping it can be fixed if the bearings are rapping you need to replace the bearings and alot more.
Huum............you changed your oil until your valves began to tap.....! Sounds like you really ignored your vehicle! Sounds like your car has had it.......you probably burned a few rings on your pistons cause YOU DIDN'T CHANGE YOUR OIL regularly. The roughness sounds like you're losing compression! Sorry.....but your car is about to croak!
YOU SHOULD GET THE VEHICLES COMPUTER SCANNED AND CHECK FOR ANY PROBLEMS AS WELL AS CODES AND THEN YOU WILL HAVE A GOOD IDEA ON WHAT THE PROBLEM TRULY IS.
TRY FINDING AN INDEPENDENT SHOP INSTEAD OF THE DEALER OR A CHAIN STORE BECAUSE YOU WILL BE OVERALL MORE PLEASED WITH THE FINDINGS AND THE SERVICE.
LEAVE IT THERE WITH THEM SO THAT THEY CAN FIND THE PROBLEM FOR YOU, IT WILL BE A LOT BETTER THAN JUST REPLACING PART AFTER PART AND NO DOING ANY GOOD.

If a car is real low on oil...?
Will that make the car not want to start (not turn over) or slow to start? If a car is real low on oil...?
it can make it turn over real slow, its best to keep it full of oil if possible this will help save the engine in it,other wise you can damage it and it may not be fixable either, good luck.If a car is real low on oil...?
good ,im glad its ok. Report Abuse
yes it could. sone engines wont even turn over if too low on oil.
Yes it will...Add oil right away before using the car again or you will wreck the engine.
It sure can happen, check the oil and add some.
It could also be the cables, or the main red cable is loose.
If all else fails , its the alternater(the starter)
No, it will start and run fine until metal on metal contact causes such heat parts warp and seize. Then it does not turn over at all. If it slow to start or turn over, there can be many causes, such as low battery, poor contact, etc. Of course, if you check the oil, and it is real low, you don't turn the key until you add oil.
Yes it will and it will damage or sieze the engine.
But what your describing could also be a battery or starter problem.
UMMMMM yeah!!!! Plus it will tear up the motor!!! Hurts it each and everytime you try to start it! ADD SOME OIL BEFORE YOUR CAR DIES!!!!
Usually low oil level will NOT cause the car to turn over slowly; I think you're looking at a weak battery, bad starter or possibly a bad cable connection (check and clean the cables first).
You have 1 or 2 good answers as relates to power issues for starting.
First of all, an engine will ';turn over'; with absolutely no oil in it. I have seen this done by mechanics while testing an engine. Not a good idea to start it in that condition, but it can be, and is done by those who know what they are doing.
Pull the oil dip stick, wipe it off, re-insert it, then pull it out again, and look at the end of it to see where the oil film is in relation to the markings to see if it does in fact need oil. If it does, add some, but do not over fill it. Adding oil is not a cure all for engine problems. In point of fact, to much oil can make problems worse, or cause new ones, such as destroying gaskets and costing you more than you could imagine.
The starter is a motor used to spin the engine crankshaft to start the engine. This little motor makes everything in the engine move as it does when the engine is running in order to start the engine. It is NOT the alternator. The alternator is the small round thing at the front of the engine with a ';fan belt'; that goes over the pulley on it. The alternator provides the electrical power needed to keep the car running, as well as to recharge the battery.
The slow starting could be caused by bad cable connections, a weak battery, a bad starter motor, bad plugs, a slipped timing chain or belt, a cracked or bad distributor cap if the engine uses one (some vehicles use an ignition coil assembly that serves 1 or more plugs-it is controlled by the computer). A dirty air filter can interfere with starting because it can make the fuel mix to rich, thus flooding the engine with gasoline. The injectors could be bad, if so equipped, or anything associated with the fuel delivery system. So, you have a number of things to check. Do not assume a cause, know what the cause is, unless you simply want to make things worse.
have to agree with kiffin
sounds like you nearly blew the motor
Sounds like a week battery or starter..
Low oil possibly could do that but it depends on how low and how long you ran it being low. Chaces are though it is your battery or starter.
yup. that can mess up your car. get some oil in it before you move it again.

How much oil does a nascar race car hold?
About 4 gallons. How much oil does a nascar race car hold?
It depends on which series you are asking about. How much oil does a nascar race car hold?

I am going to tell you why that bothers me that she sit in her car while my dad checked the oil and water.?
It bothers me because it is her car and she was just sitting in her car while he checked her oil and water for her and she is just sitting in her car while he is out there with the hood of her car opened checking the oil and water before she went to walmart and so if you all can give me your opinions it would be greatly appreciated.I am going to tell you why that bothers me that she sit in her car while my dad checked the oil and water.?
You said you were going to tell us why it bothers you and the only thing I can understand, it is her car. . .so what? He wanted to do it and it is none of your business. Are you jealous, who is this girl anyway? Is it is wife, is it his girlfriend, is it his next door neighbor, why not give us more info.. .?I am going to tell you why that bothers me that she sit in her car while my dad checked the oil and water.?
This is called being a man, as opposed to being a boy. A man will do this for a woman. It is the right thing to do. It is the polite thing to do. It is a kind thing to do. There are things that she does that you are not aware of, that your dad cannot do or does not want to do at all. More than likely..it's even. When you grow up, you will hopefully see how this works in relationships. Give and Take, Sharing, Helping out, Cooperation. I think you might have missed that episode on Barney or Sesame Street. Check it out, PBS. No offense, give a lot to get a lot, give a little to get a little, give nothing and get nothing.
maybe you should read your question and then you would realize it is not a question but a freaking rambling of crap.........get over it..men know alot more about cars and what to do...who is this person to you anyway that it made you mad...get over the oil and water thing i mean get over the oil and water thing...see repeating can be annoying
I can understand why you think that was rude of her, it might've have been more polite if she got out of the car and watched him do it, but as long as she was polite in other ways such as saying ';please, and thank you'; everything is fine.

In my opinion you are as brainless as the day is long. God, I wish you'd disappear! Please, please, please, please go throw yourself off a cliff.
I really don't understand your question, but I wouldn't have gotten out of the car either. I don't know anything about cars! What did you want her to do--just stand there??debt consolidation loan

What happen if the oil and gas suddenly use up what will happen with all the car?
Everybody would have to stay home or walk. What happen if the oil and gas suddenly use up what will happen with all the car?
All the cars will go to the army for target practice. What happen if the oil and gas suddenly use up what will happen with all the car?
the oil and gas is not going to be used up for many years.
They will stop, we can use them as flower pots.
They'll start making only, those cars that use corn for gas.
I'd personally rather ride a bike and carry pepperspray with me.
Flintstones, meet the Flintstones,
they're a prehistoric family,
(you know the words, sing it with me)
in the town of Bedrock,
they're a page right out of history.
the car will cease to move.
they all will become collector items. all at once.
